My projected lineup for Flyers this season includes Provorov

With seven Flyers still not in camp because they haven't returned from the World Cup, it's difficult to gauge the team's lines. But we'll take a stab at it.

Here is how they may look this season:

Line 1: Claude Giroux centering Brayden Schenn and Jake Voracek.

Line 2: Sean Couturier centering Michael Raffl and Wayne Simmonds.

Line 3: Nick Cousins centering Scott Laughton and Dale Weise.

Line 4: Boyd Gordon centering Matt Read and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare.

Bellemare could end up centering the fourth line, but Boyd is better in the faceoff circle.

Other players could enter the picture, of course, with strong showings in the exhibition season, which begins Monday with split-squad games in Newark, N.J., and Brooklyn.

Among other players trying to earn a forward spot: RW Travis Konecny, who has the speed and creativity this team craves; LW Taylor Leier; winger/center Roman Lyubimov; center/winger Chris VandeVelde; and center/winger Jordan Weal.

Schenn will miss the first three games because of a suspension, so that will open another early spot.

The defense might look like this: Shayne Gostisbehere and Michael Del Zotto; Ivan Provorov and Nick Schultz; Radko Gudas and Mark Streit. Look for Andrew MacDonald or Brandon Manning to stick as the seventh D-man.

The goalie competition is a dead heat between Steve Mason and Michal Neuvirth. From here, goaltending is the Flyers' best position.

And when is the last time you could say that?

Injuries and strong performances by others could change some of the above projections, but that's how it looks from here on Day 2 of camp.

Scrimmage time. On Sunday, you might want to stop at the Voorhees practice rink for an intra-squad scrimmage at 11 a.m. It is free and open to the public.
