Flyers, Penguins in outdoor game in Feb. as part of 50-year celebration

The Flyers and Penguins will play at outdoor game in Pittsburgh next year, and the matchup is expected to be played Feb. 18 at Heinz Field, according to the Post-Gazette.

An announcement could be made on Wednesday.

The game will be a part of the 50th anniversary celebration of both teams entering the NHL.

The teams are expected to have an outdoor game in Philadelphia in 2019, perhaps at Lincoln Financial Field.

Playoff race.  Tuesday was a good night for the idle Flyers. Pittsburgh and Detroit both lost, so the Flyers now have a game in hand on both teams.

The Flyers are two points behind the Red Wings and three points behind the Penguins as the teams battle for the two wild-card spots.

The Flyers have 17 games left, including a combined five contests against the Penguins and Red Wings.

Coming off a 5-1 homestand, the Flyers are off until Friday in Tampa; they play the Panthers on Saturday in Sunrise, Fla.

Flyers Wives Carnival. The Flyers Wives Carnival, which started in 1977, will be held Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The carnival involves participation from Flyers players, alumni, and management, and many interactive games against the players will be held.
