Flyers' 'Ghost' greets wounded Delaware County police officer

Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere met a man he called a "warrior" on Thursday.

And it wasn't someone who plays hockey.

Gostisbehere visited the Folcroft Police Department in Delaware County and presented police officer Chris Dorman with a personalized No. 63 Flyers jersey _ in honor of the department's district.

Last Friday, Dorman, 25, was shot seven times - including once in the face through both cheeks - after approaching people suspected of dealing drugs in Folcroft. A man has been arrested in the case.

"What he's been through the last week, I'm pretty sure his world's been flipped upside down," said Gostisbehere, who finished second in the rookie-of-the-year race. "But I wanted to take time out to lift his spirits a bit and get him in some Orange and Black to make him look really good now."

Gostisbehere said people see hockey players and other athletes as role models, but he puts police officers and firefighters in that category.

"When you see what he's going through right now and you see how much of a warrior he is and walking around right now _ and it only happened a week ago _ he's pretty amazing," Gostisbehere said. "I'm pretty sure kids are going to be looking up to him."

Dorman on the visit:  "It's awesome.   It's really good to meet someone like him."

After a series of surgeries Monday, Dorman was released from the hospital and greeted by more than 150 first responders and county officials. He was escorted to his home in Folcroft by a fleet of officers as bystanders clapped and cheered.

On Twitter, the phrase #Dormanthedelcolegend circulated widely.
