Eagles' Zach Ertz suffers concussion

Eagles tight end Zach Ertz suffered a concussion in the second quarter of the Eagles' 45-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

The injury placed Ertz in the concussion protocol, which could put Ertz's status in doubt for the Eagles' game against Detroit on Thanksgiving. The Eagles have only two days of practice before they leave for the game.

The play occurred when Ertz tried hurdling a defender on a third down in the second quarter. Ertz fell on his neck and was taken into the locker room for evaluation. He became the fifth Eagle to suffer a concussion in three weeks.

Ertz left with two catches for 12 yards. His absence opened more playing time for Brent Celek, who led the Eagles with seven catches for 79 yards. Trey Burton also entered the game on offense.

Peters returns

Left tackle Jason Peters returned to the lineup after missing the past two games with a back injury. Peters was questionable and worked out before the game, when it was determined he would play.

Peters took himself out of the game in the fourth quarter.

"We got down so far that there was nothing we could do at that point," Peters said. "The last couple of minutes, I just took myself out because I didn't want to hurt myself worse."

With Peters in the lineup, Lane Johnson returned to right tackle. Dennis Kelly became the team's top reserve.

The Eagles' inactives were quarterback Sam Bradford, running back Ryan Mathews, cornerback Denzel Rice, linebacker Emmanuel Acho, offensive linemen Josh Andrews and Tanner Hawkinson, and defensive end Brandon Bair.

Bradford and Mathews were both declared out with a concussion. Thad Lewis was active for the first time this season as backup quarterback for Mark Sanchez. Kenjon Barner became the team's No. 3 running back and rushed seven times for 37 yards.

The Eagles also activated safety Ed Reynolds for the first time in his career, but Reynolds did not get into the game.

Nothing new on Bradford

Chip Kelly had no update on Bradford's status after the game. Bradford did not warm up on the field before the game, which likely means he has not been cleared to throw passes yet. With a Thursday game, Bradford would need to take considerable strides if he's going to be in the lineup this week.

"I have no idea," Sanchez said about the chance of starting again. "I just want to improve upon things that went wrong this game and play the very best I can if I get another shot."

Biggers replaces Maragos

The Eagles changed their nickel and dime packages on Sunday. They took Chris Maragos out of the lineup and played E.J. Biggers in the slot in nickel situations, with the safeties remaining in place. In the dime, they inserted second-round pick Eric Rowe as an outside cornerback.
