Wolff tests knee, says he thinks he's OK

Eagles safety Earl Wolff, who could be a key defender Saturday night against the Saints, tested his ailing right knee Thursday and said it felt good.

The Eagles' indoor practice Thursday was little more than a walkthrough, as is usually the case two days before a game, but afterward, rookie safety Earl Wolff said he tested his right knee extensively, working on his own. Wolff said as far as he is concerned, he can play Saturday night, when the Eagles host the Saints in a Wild Card round playoff game. But he also said it isn't entirely up to him, and that Friday will be important, when he'll know whether the knee stiffened up after the most extensive work he has done all week.

"I felt good. Now it's up to them, basically," said Wolff, who hyperextended the knee Nov. 10 at Green Bay. He returned two weeks ago against the Bears, only to aggravate the injury. Wolff said he tried to do Thursday "what I would do in a game, and it didn't really bother me. Of course, I felt it a little bit, but I'm going to feel it a little bit, you know. But it's nothing that's going to hold me back, I feel like."

Last week, Wolff was a full practice participant all week, but was unhappy with how the knee felt each day when he was done. He didn't feel he could accelerate normally, and he ended up missing the Dallas game. This week, Wolff said the plan was for him to take the Tuesday and Wednesday practices off, then see what he could do. Eagles coach Chip Kelly, perhaps hoping to confuse the situation a little bit for the benefit of the Saints, didn't say that whebn he was asked about Wolff on Wednesday; Kelly said only that if Wolff didn't practice, he wouldn't play.

Wolff's presence or absence could be a huge factor, with the Saints' array of weapons, including dynamic tight end Jimmy Graham. Wolff said he doesn't feel he'll be rusty, though he has only a handful of game snaps under his belt since Nov. 10, since he practiced all last week.

The only Eagle who didn't participate in practice Thursday was backup center Julian Vandervelde, who remains sidelined with a back problem.
