‘The Eagles are going to win the NFC East’: Birds soar in power rankings

The Eagles are for real. That’s the consensus of national sports writers around the country, who continue to heap praise on the Eagles’ surprising undefeated start.

The Eagles are for real.

That's the consensus of national sports writers around the country, who continue to heap praise on the Eagles' surprising undefeated start.

"The Eagles are going to win [the NFC East]," Sports Illustrated's MMQB columnist Peter King told SportsRadio 94.1 WIP's Angelo Cataldi earlier this week, based mostly on the stout defense built by new coordinator Jim Schwartz. "The Philadelphia Eagles have scored 29, 29, and 34 points in their three games so far… they've only allowed 27 points. In every game, they've outscored the opposition collectively this year. This is as much a defensive team right now — a team that will win with defense — as a team that will be explosive on offense."

Due to the bye week, the Eagles didn't move around much on the NFL power rankings from national media outlets. The folks at Bleacher Report seem to be the most optimistic about the team, ranking them #3 in the league.

Here how the national outlets rank the Eagles heading into Week 5:

ESPN (Eagles ranked #7 | Last week's rank #7)

NFL Network (Eagles rank #6 | Last week's rank #6)

Bleacher Report (Eagles rank #3 | Last week's rank #4)

"Only two other teams—the Denver Broncos and the Philadelphia Eagles—remain perfect, as the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots both fell to 3-1 on Sunday."

CBS Sports (Eagles rank #5 | Last week's rank #5)

Washington Post (Eagles rank #5 | Last week's rank #5)

SB Nation (Eagles rank #5 | Last week's rank #5)

Yahoo! Sports (Eagles rank #5 | Last week's rank #5)

USA Today (Eagles rank #5 | Last week's rank #4)

"Drops a spot due to the bye week, which is totally unfair I realize, but on the other hand, whatever."
