Should the Eagles have traded up for one of the 'Sexy Six?'

Both Howie Roseman and Chip Kelly stated that the Eagles had targeted six players in the first round of the draft, but none were available when they found themselves on the clock with the 22nd overall pick. Instead, when they were on the clock at 22, the Eagles traded back to 26th overall with the Browns, and picked up one of Cleveland's 3rd round picks (83rd overall) in the process.

When they were on the clock at the 83rd overall pick, they traded back once more with Houston. The Texans gave the Eagles their 4th round pick (101st overall) and 5th round pick (141st overall) to move up. In other words, the Eagles parlayed their 22nd overall pick into the 26th, 101st, and 141st overall picks. With those picks, they selected Marcus Smith, Jaylen Watkins, and Taylor Hart.

It is widely accepted that the "Sexy Six," as we'll call them henceforth, were Brandin Cooks, Anthony Barr, Kyle Fuller, C.J. Mosley, Odell Beckham, and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, pictured below.

Barr was never in play, as he was picked 9th overall by the Vikings. Beckham went 12th to the Giants, Fuller went 14th to the Bears, and Mosley went 17th to the Ravens.

With the Cardinals on the clock at 20, the only players left among the #Sexy6 were Brandin Cooks and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. If the Eagles wanted to trade up to be 100% sure they got one of their guys, they could have traded up with the Cardinals, who were listening to offers.

Instead, the Saints traded up with the Cardinals, giving up their 3rd round pick to move up from 27 to 20. They selected Cooks, the Packers took Clinton-Dix at 21, and the Eagles were left feeling super unsexy.

Having the benefit of hindsight, it has been pointed out by some that the Eagles should have traded up with the Cardinals to get one of their guys, instead of hoping that one of them would fall to 22.

However, even with the benefit of hindsight, the Eagles were probably better off not trading up. In order to beat the Saints' offer, the Eagles probably would have had to have given up their 3rd round pick to move up from 22 to 20, which would have been awful value. It would have also meant no Josh Huff in the 3rd round.
