Eagles sign ex-Lions, Browns defensive tackle Gabe Wright to a one-year deal

The move adds depth to a position that’s been thin for the Eagles this spring.

The Eagles signed defensive tackle Gabe Wright to a one-year deal Monday, adding depth to a position that's been thin for the Eagles this spring.

Wright, 25, was a 2015 fourth-round pick by the Detroit Lions. He played for the Lions and Cleveland Browns during his first two NFL seasons and has 10 tackles and no sacks in 12 career games. He has had one start. The Lions drafted him with a pick acquired from the Eagles.

Coming out of Auburn in 2015, Wright had the reputation of a player who would fit in a penetrating 4-3 scheme. That's what the Eagles play, so they're hoping the 6-foot-3, 305-pound Wright can adjust to Jim Schwartz's system.

The Eagles are practicing this spring without Beau Allen, who has a pectoral injury. Rookie Elijah Qualls is not present because of NFL rules that require his academic schedule at Washington be completed before he can join the team. Wright will join Destiny Vaeao and Justin Hamilton behind Fletcher Cox and Tim Jernigan.
