While it is true that the depth chart in May will look different from the way it will look in September, it does give us an early peek into how the coaches see the competition at several key positions. Last year, for instance, opened with Eric Rowe not at first-team corner, which seemed surprising considering how he finished the previous season. Jim Schwartz warned against making any assumptions, but it was a clear indication that the new defensive coordinator wasn't a fan, and several months later, Rowe was traded.

These players were missing from practice Tuesday: defensive tackle Beau Allen, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, tackle Jason Peters, punter Donnie Jones, cornerback Sidney Jones, running back Ryan Mathews, defensive tackle Elijah Qualls, and defensive end Marcus Smith.

Allen has a torn pectoral tendon and could be out until the season. Both Allen and coach Doug Pederson said that there wasn't a timeline for his return. Cox, Peters and Jones didn't attend the elective practice. Cox is home with his family, per a source, but is expected back for next week's OTAs. Johnson said that he thought Peters would be back by minicamp next month.

Sidney Jones and Qualls can't attend NFL workouts until they graduate from college. Jones, who is recovering from an Achilles tendon rupture, wouldn't have practiced anyway. Mathews is still recovering from neck surgery. He will likely be released once he's deemed healthy. Smith was missing in action, and the Eagles didn't have an immediate answer on his whereabouts.

Cornerback Ron Brooks and linebacker Joe Walker were at practice and participated in some drills, but were held out from team drills. Brooks is coming back from a torn quad tendon injury and Walker is recovering from last August's torn ACL. Offensive lineman Allen Barbre sat out practice with a calf injury, and undrafted rookie center Tyler Orlosky was out with a knee injury.
