LB Jake Knott, DL Joe Kruger among 14 Eagles released

Linebacker Jake Knott and defensive lineman Joe Kruger were among the 14 players the Eagles released on Saturday. The other players were tight ends Blake Annen and Emil Igwenagu; offensive linemen Michael Bamiro and Karim Barton; wide receivers Kadron Boone and BJ Cunningham; offensive lineman Donald Hawkins and Karim Barton; defensive ends Frances Mays and Alejando Villaneuva; safety Davon Morgan; and kicker Carey Spear.

The roster is now at 76. It must be at 75 by Tuesday.

Knott played 12 games for the Eagles last season. He's been out most of the summer with a hamstring injury, and he was due to miss the first four games because of suspension.

Kruger, a 2013 seventh-round pick, spent all of last season on injured reserve and has not been able to make a dent in the lineup this summer.

Igwenagu and Cunningham both spent time on the roster last season. Villaneuva is a former Army Ranger who struggled in his transition to defensive end. The Eagles had hoped Spear would challenge for the kicker spot, but that never materialized.

Wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and Brad Smith also practiced.
