Kelly says nothing brewing as trade deadline approaches

If the Eagles are going to make any personnel moves, Chip Kelly is keeping it to himself.

Tick, tick, tick. The NFL trade deadline is 4 p.m. EST today, but if the Eagles are going to make any personnel moves, Chip Kelly is keeping it to himself.

"No,'' Kelly said late Tuesday morning when asked if anything was brewing.

Kelly and his coaching staff spent the bye week self-scouting. Asked what the process told him about the play of his inconsistent quarterback, Sam Bradford, in the first seven games, he said, "We feel very comfortable with our quarterback situation. I think Sam's done a nice job.''

As far as his observations about the Eagles offense overall, Kelly focused on his receivers' league-high 28 drops. "Missed opportunities,'' he said. "Too many drops. That's the first thing I think (everybody saw) when we came out of there. We dropped too many balls. I think we're first in the league in drops.

"There were a lot of things that could've extended drives for us and kept us on the field. It really affected our third-down proficiency in terms of holding on to the football. We have to do a better job of catching the football.''

The Eagles held a light hour-long practice Tuesday. Kelly said all his injured players, except for left tackle Jason Peters (back), would participate. That included linebackers Kiko Alonso (knee) and DeMeco Ryans (hamstring).

"Everybody but JP will go today, and hopefully we'll get him back tomorrow or the next day,'' Kelly said. "We'll monitor (the injured players) and see how they do and take it from there.''

Kelly said Peters has made progress since going down with back spasms early in the Eagles' 27-16 loss to Carolina. "He stayed here over the bye and got treatment and has made progress. It looks like he's moving around. He may do some little things today, but he won't be in drills like the other (injured) guys.''

--Asked how defensive coordinator Bill Davis will manage his inside linebackers if Alonso and Ryans are ready to return, Kelly said, "We have to see if they're healthy first. Their first day back on the field is today. We have five days of training to find out who takes to it, who doesn't take to it. Does someone pull up lame on Tuesday or Thursday? For us to have a plan today really doesn't make any sense.''
