Handing out 10 awards from the Eagles media kicker competition

The Eagles along with Santander Bank had a charity event after practice on Monday, in which media folks attempted to kick field goals in a competition against their peers. $2,500 went to the winner's charity of choice, with $500 going to each of the three runners'-up charities of choice.

Let's hand out 10 awards from the event.

Worst kicker: Howard Eskin of Fox 29 and WIP. A pair of shankopotomusses (or is it shankopotomi?) for the radio legend. To be fair, Eskin kicked in a suit, and he did make a PAT in warmups. So it wasn't all bad. Eskin had to ice up afterward:

Eskin got a little chuckle out of Nick Foles:

Best kicker: Somebody named Peter Car from the Lehigh Valley Press. I'm not sure he covers the Eagles or how he got included in the event, but he could kick, and he took home one of the runner-up checks.

Other good kickers: Martin Frank of the Wilmington News Journal and Robert Edwards of the South Jersey Times. Legit contenders next year.

The Akers award for best lefty kicker: Bob Ford of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Zach Berman was the other lefty. Both Ford and Berman advanced into the second round, but we'll give Ford the "Akers award" because of his "tenure." :)

The Martin Gramatica best post-kick celebration award: Brandon Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation. After making his PAT attempt, he took off his shirt to reveal a Superman shirt.

The Tony Romo choker award: Bo Wulf of PhiladelphiaEagles.com, who came in with 3-1 odds. Wulf drilled his first kick right down the middle, which would have been good from 80. But in the single elimination round, the pressure got to him, and he hooked his kick left. Dave Spadaro, also of the Eagles Mothership, came in at 16-1 odds, but Spuds didn't get out of the first round. Chris McPherson, however, was able to help the Eagles' media guys save some face by finishing as a runner up after advancing to the third round.

Worst preparation: Sheil Kapadia of Philly Mag. Because his film breakdowns are so thoroughly researched, I expected more from Sheil. However, Sheil didn't even bother taking any warm-up kicks and he participated in jeans.

Best shoes: Me.

Here's a close-up:

On a side note, it's not easy kicking field goals with Jeff McLane heckling you about your abnormally skinny legs.

Eskin deserves a mention here too, as he wore two different shoes:

The "OMG I made it!" award: John Gonzalez ("Gonzo") came in at respectable 15-1 odds, but during warm-ups it was clear that Vegas wildly overestimated his kicking ability. Ugly. But when the first kick mattered, Gonzo knocked it through, and I don't think anyone was more surprised than Gonzo himself. Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com also gets a nod here, after he hit an impressive 35 yard attempt. I don't think Eliot knew he had that kind of range.

And finally...

The 2014 Eagles media kicking competition champ: Shorr-Parks, who won $2,500 for his charity of choice, The Congenital Heart Walk. Congrats, #ESP.

There aren't many opportunities in life in which you can win a giant over-sized Happy Gilmore-style check, and I feel like I squandered it. Like with most of the Philly teams we root for, there's always next year.
