Early Birds: Eagles-Jets Snap Count Analysis

QUARTERBACK

Sam Bradford: 73 snaps (100%)

Analysis: Bradford made it through another game healthy, keeping Mark Sanchez on the bench for the third consecutive week. Bradford finished 14 of 28 for 118 yards and one touchdown – by no means a stellar game, but he did not turn the ball over, either. And from a snap count perspective, he stayed on the field.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Allen Barbre: 73 (100%); 4 ST snaps (12%)

Lane Johnson: 73 (100%); 4 (12%)

Jason Kelce: 73 (100%)

Jason Peters: 65 (89%)

Andrew Gardner: 41 (56%); 3 (9%)

Matt Tobin: 32 (44%); 4 (12%)

Dennis Kelly: 8 (11%); 1 (3%)

Analysis: Chip Kelly did not make any lineup changes on the offensive line. However, Andrew Gardner left in the second quarter with a foot injury and did not return. Matt Tobin replaced Gardner at right guard. When Jason Peters was rolled up on in the fourth quarter, he left the game. Tobin moved to left tackle and Dennis Kelly entered the game. Kelly was active for the first time this season because of the Eagles' injuries elsewhere. Josh Andrews would usually be the seventh lineman, but he was the eighth lineman on Sunday.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Nelson Agholor: 68 (93%)

Jordan Matthews: 62 (85%)

Miles Austin: 44 (60%)

Riley Cooper: 31 (42%); 13 (39%)

Seyi Ajirotutu: 2 (3%); 26 (79%)

Analysis: Agholor took the most snaps of all the wide receivers, but he did not have a catch on four targets. Matthews was the only wide receiver to record a catch. He finished with six catches for 49 yards. Austin took his heaviest workload of the season. It came at the expense of Cooper, whose playing time is declining. Cooper might have been dealing with an injury – he did not appear to play on offense in the second half. Josh Huff missed the game because of a hamstring injury, so there were more snaps to go around.

RUNNING BACKS

Ryan Mathews: 41 (56%)

Darren Sproles: 33 (45%); 9 (27%)

Analysis: With DeMarco Murray out because of a hamstring injury, the playing time went to only two running backs. Mathews was the lead back, but this was a reasonable split. It's easier to split carries among two running backs than three. Mathews was able to get a rhythm and carried the ball 25 times. Kenjon Barner was active, but he did not play on offense.

TIGHT ENDS

Brent Celek : 46 (63%); 7 (21%)

Zach Ertz TE 38 (52%); 4 (12%)

Analysis: Celek took more snaps than Ertz for the first time this season. That's likely because the Eagles were playing from ahead and the running game was working. But it was a slight difference, and Ertz was still involved in the passing game. It would make sense if those percentages were reversed going forward, but both players play big roles in the offense.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Fletcher Cox: 62 (78%)

Brandon Bair: 46 (58%); 3 (9%)

Bennie Logan: 42 (53%); 3 (9%)

Vinny Curry: 29 (37%); 3 (9%)

Beau Allen: 28 (35%); 7 (21%)

Analysis: The Eagles missed two regular linemen: Cedric Thornton and Taylor Hart. That changed the playing time distribution. Bair started and played most of the snaps. He actually took more snaps than Logan. Curry remained a situational player, with Allen as the backup nose tackle. Allen saw an uptick in snaps on Sunday. Cox's playing time went unchanged. He actually took fewer snaps than the first two weeks. The Eagles had only five linemen active.

LINEBACKERS

Jordan Hicks: 79 (100%); 6 (18%)

Connor Barwin: 66 (84%); 1 (3%)

DeMeco Ryans: 56 (71%)

Brandon Graham: 49 (62%); 3 (9%)

Najee Goode: 4 (5%); 25 (76%)

Analysis: With Mychal Kendricks and Kiko Alonso both sidelined, the Eagles turned to Jordan Hicks. He played every defensive snap, led the team in tackles, and also had an interception and a fumble recovery. The Eagles did not have an inside linebacker rotation. Hicks played in all packages. Ryans played base and nickel. The Eagles didn't use Marcus Smith as the third outside linebacker. Graham actually saw a decrease from recent games. The Eagles didn't use him as much in sub packages. Goode took most of Hicks' special-teams work.

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Malcolm Jenkins: 79 (100%); 15 (45%)

Walter Thurmond: 79 (100%); 8 (24%)

Nolan Carroll: 79 (100%); 8 (24%)

Byron Maxwell: 79 (100%)

E.J. Biggers: 64 (81%); 16 (48%)

Analysis: The Eagles spent most of the game in sub packages, which is why Biggers' numbers were so high. Maragos left the game in the first half with a knee contusion, forcing the Eagles to adjust. Biggers played in nickel and dime situations. Rowe went into the game in the dime on the outside, with Jenkins reverting back to safety. Carroll and Biggers played the slots. Couplin took one snap in the dime before the Eagles adjusted with Rowe. The starters all remained healthy and major contributors.  They did not miss a snap.
