Eagles waive Matthew Tucker with a non-football injury; Former DBs coach John Lovett reportedly takes job at Cal

The Eagles waived running back Matthew Tucker with a non-football injury on Monday, opening one roster spot six days before training camp opens.

Tucker, 24, has been with the Eagles during the past two seasons. Most of that time was spent on practice squad, although he also played two games on the active roster in 2013. Coach Chip Kelly singled Tucker out as a player who had a productive spring last offseason, but he did not make the 53-man roster. Tucker was competing for a potential fourth running back spot this season.

Kenjon Barner would now be the front runner if the Eagles keep four running backs, which they planned on doing before letting Chris Polk free earlier this offseason.
