Eagles receive permission to interview Tom Coughlin

The Eagles received permission from the New York Giants to interview former Giants coach Tom Coughlin, according to a league source.

Coughlin, 69, resigned Monday after 12 seasons and two Super Bowl championships with the Giants. He is 170-150 in 20 seasons as an NFL head coach. The Giants did not make the playoffs during the past four seasons, and they had two consecutive 6-10 seasons.

Because he still had one year remaining on his contract with the Giants, he needs permission to interview with other teams.

When Coughlin resigned earlier this week, he said he has "not necessarily" extinguished his coaching flame.

"I said I'm not necessarily done with coaching," he reiterated on a follow-up question during his news conference.

Coughlin's first NFL coaching job came with the Eagles. He was the wide receivers coach under Marion Campbell from 1984-85.
