Will the Sixers trade Iguodala?

POSTED: Friday, June 1, 2012, 11:50 AM

This is one of the most frequently asked questions, so we figured we would take some elements of it here.

Although they were on the floor together for much of the end of the regular season and throughout the playoffs, it appears hard for Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner to coexist on the floor for a significant amount of minutes.

Therefore, you would expect to see Iguodala to be dealt during this offseason. But, the Sixers are so hard to play against because of their defense, and that all starts with Iguodala, so you wonder if Doug Collins wants to give up on that. The Sixers were at or near the top of the league defensively all season.

The latest rumblings comes from ESPN.com's Chris Broussard who reports the Sixers are "looking to move" Iguodala. The Warriors again have been mentioned as a possible destination in a report from the Contra Costa Times this week, and Broussard mentions the possibility of a deal with Memphis for Rudy Gay, another trade that was mentioned last year.

After a strong showing in the playoffs, Iguodala’s status might never be higher. For his part, Iguodala says he will prepare to return to the Sixers -- a better answer than he providing at the end of the playoffs last season. He has been through the trade rumors before and says he knows how it works.

But with two aching knees and a bothersome Achilles’, you have to wonder how much is left in him. He also potentially has an exhausting summer ahead of him. Iguodala is among the players who have been invited to training camp with the U.S. National Team for a spot on the Olympic team. The team begins camp during the first week in July in Las Vegas. After a weeklong camp, Team USA will take part in some exhibition games before the Olympics begin.

Right now, I would say, 60-40 he stays.

Iggy needs to be traded. I was an Iggy basher at the beginning of the season but he showed me a lot this season. He makes a lot of ESPN Top 10 plays, but he also makes a lot of ESPN Not Top Ten plays.

I don't see Turner and Holliday flourishing as long as Iggy is here. Its time to trade Iggy to a West coast contender for a below 15 draft pick or a talented, project player. Good luck Iggy.

I don't get it, Bob. After an entire article -- albeit, a short one -- explaining why Iggy will be traded, you say the odds are 60-40 that he stays. Iggy's a good player, but he has to go because he'll bring a good player at a position of need (shooting guard; post presence)in return. Plus, Turner can slide into Iggy's spot and, in my opinion, blossom.

I can see nothing but chronic lower extremity problems for AI2 for the remainder of his career, any observant potential trading partner can see it also. He will still play at a high level but will need rest and go through stretches where he cannot play at his peak. And the situation will be worse next year if he makes the Olympic team. There is no way a GM should trade a big man or scorer who can help the Sixers long-term for AI. If Thorn is able to pull something off involving AI which actually helps the team he should be indicted err..crowned. From what I've seen of Turner, at his peak he will never be even a one-time allstar - his overall contribution to the team will be positive, but never as much as an occasionally hobbled Andre. If Thorn can't pull off a steal then let the contract expire and pick up a FA. If a dominant big man is available now then amnesty Brand. We do not need to be taking steps back in hopes of gambling on lottery picks. Other astute teams continually draft lower than Philly and pick up players who make significant contributions. We need to do the same.

Trade Iggy for Gasol. Amnesity Brand. Sign Deron Williams. Let LouWill walk. Trade Turner for a bag of balls. Sign Ray Allen. peace

Why in the heck would you want Paul Gasol? That guy is a cream puff,no backbone, spineless jellyfish. No thank you!! I would rather get Kris Humphries than Gasol. And Ray Allen is on his last legs.No thank you again!! I like the idea of signing Deron Williams. They can amnesty Brand too and let Lou Williams walk also.

nycsixerfan: don't hold back. What do you really think of Gasol? We know what Kobe thinks of him. I, too, prefer Humphries. As for Deron Williams, Sixers are more likely to sign you and me than get Williams.

I've very much in favor of trading Iggy but not for Gay, and not for Steph Curry (who else does GS have) unless you're also dealing Jrue/Evan for a legit PF or C. Much rather trade Iggy to Portland for the 6th pick, get talent and save cap room, then amnesty brand and make moves

@Artie, great ideas. Deron Williams doesn't want to play here, and Ray Allen is on his very last legs. Also, Turner is only 2 years in. Give him at least 1 more year.

Rather trade Turner and keep Iggy but wouldn't get much back on that trade. Gasol or Kardassian's boyfriend might be a good way to go and let Brand get the amnesity deal. I also like the other recommendation here for Deron Williams if he can be brought in

No need to amnesty Brand guys, he only has one more year left. Trade him to get young talent. The team trading the young talent can also throw in a bad contract as an enticement to send us a better player. Then you can amnesty that bad contract.

Send Iggy to GSW for the 7 pick and Klay Thompson. Amnesty Brand and sign a Free Agent or trade the space to someone for a serviceable vet. Use the 7 pick and trade exception to move up and get Andre Drummond. Use the two second rounders to move up for Tony Wroten Jr., who should be available in the late 1st early second. If you have to throw in next year's first round pick, go ahead. Starting 5 is Drummond/Vucevic/Thompson/ET/Jrue Bench-Wroten,Meeks,Thad,Lavoy,Battie.

That rotation might end up good in the long term but short term you are going to lose a lot of games with unproven commodities throughout your line up. These kids, while good, will have to learn to play together and individually. Are they still going to be selling out the WFC while we wait for them to get better?

David lee is not the answer. We need a shot blocker to compliment iguodala and jrue on the perimeter and defend the taj gibsons so Thad can do his thing on defense
