Tawanna Iverson files for divorce

On the day that the Sixers and Allen Iverson ended their relationship, Iverson's wife, Tawanna filed for divorce in Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

In court documents, Tawanna termed her 8 1/2 year long marriage as “irretrievably broken.” In the petition filed Tuesday, she asked for temporary and permanent custody of their five children as well as child support and alimony. No specific dollar amount is listed. She also asks for an equitable division of marital assets and that Allen Iverson pay all atorney fees.

The five children range in ages from 17 months to 15 years, including 4-year-old Messiah, who has been ill, leading to Iverson's departure from the team at various points over the last month. The children are currently in the care and custody of Tawanna in Atlanta.

A hearing was set for 30 days.

A lawyer for Tawanna did not return a message from the Daily News.

The family has lived in north Atlanta since August, but also has homes outside Detroit, two in Colorado and one in Villanova. The Daily News reported in December that Iverson's six bedroom, seven bathroom house in Villanova had been on the market since July 2007. The house was first listed at $6.3 million, but the asking price has since been slashed to $3.25 million.

The high school sweethearts from Virginia married in August 2001 in a celebrity-filled wedding at the Mansion in Voorhees.

In 2002, Iverson was alleged to have thrown Tawanna out of their Gladwyne home naked, and later was accused of threatening two men with a gun while looking for her. All charges against him were later dropped.

A spokesman for the Sixers said no coaches or players would comment on Iverson's personal situation.

This is good news for AI. Cant believe he has all that money and fame and stayed with 5-5.5 (out of 10) all these years. He can now let loose in his retirement. What a life!

all charges dropped?? why not just report the facts -- big payoff so he could get away with criminal offenses. also - five kids in 8 years? so - she was pretty much pregnant the entire time they were married. doesn't leave a whole lotta room for enjoying your relationship. they may have tried to spread the kids out a little more so she wasn't preggars the whole darned time! can't they afford some birth control on his salary? seems like she might have planned it that way -- keep poppin' those money-makers out. guess she didn't want to work.

I think what happened is that one morning she woke up and realized: Oh my gosh, I'm actually married to Allen Iverson.

mmmmmmmmmm. Nobody files for divorce while they have a seriously ill child. I have a feeling there is a lot more to this story.

@ProudRepublican Better than Dr. J? Let me have some of what YOUR smoking! ha ha Better than the 30,026 Points(24.2 ppg) 2,272 Steels(2.0 spg)and the 10,525 Rebounds (8.5 rpg)Career stats Dr.J?? LOL Iverson is a good player, but he is not to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Great Dr. J! Iverson career stats are as follows: 24,368 Points 1,983 Steals 3,394 Rebounds...and he still plays! Dr. J's career has been over since 1987! You do the math...and oh and one other thing...Iverson has never led anyone of the 3 times hes played for to an NBA championship. Dr.r J has...and won it! Maybe if he went to practice like he was suppose to he would have gone from good...to great. His own arrogance kept him from greatness.

Sometimes I wish I were a professional athlete. It seems so glamorous. And then at other times, like when reading this story, I'm glad I'm not.

verson is a punk. When he played "in his prime", he was a selfish ball hog, but to him it didn't matter as long as he had 30, 40, 50 points a game. He knew his name would be in papers next day and on tv with his points scored.... that was all that mattered. He had Larry Brown pulling his hair out. Iverson was a narcissist. He wouldn't wear the "customary" dress clothes all players wore when they were unable to play, which was a suit and a presentable look. Iverson instead wanted to look like a rap guy with the hoodies, baggie pants, etc... And Brown finally relented and let him wear these kinds of clothes when he was out due to injury, but was still required to be there when Sixers team played. At one time Iverson made such rotten rap videos and cd's that the NBA had to step in to stop their release. When Charles Barkley had his number 34 retired in Philadelphia at halftime, punk boy said he was "sick", and didn't even show up that night for that game. Later it was verified punk boy was out at some bar with his hanger on-er punk friends. A direct slap in the face to Sir Charles. I knew then Iverson was a problem. He's a shrewd one. But most of all, he's a punk. Maybe he's growing up a little now, who knows, but people don't really change that much. His wife will take him for a ride, making sure she had plenty of kids (5), and I'm sure Iverson loves every one, and has his good points. But bottom line is he was a punk, and it caught up to him.

Why would you get yourself pregnant 26 months before a marriage becomes "...broken". These people are completely irresponsible

Whatever the issue is...People need to show some class and respect. Divorce, sick child, sore knee...It's A.I.'s business. The man is a human being with issues like everyone else. To the 'BASHERS"..What makes you people soooo perfect? Look in the mirror because you are not.Philly people wonder why the championships are so few and far between.BAD KARMA...Philly trash's and eats it's own..You reap what you sow.Show some class and some morals for once, and perhaps the Eagles will win a SB, the Sixers and Flyers will win a championship...
