Sixers in talks for Carmelo Anthony, Western exec says

Should the Sixers trade Andre Iguodala for Carmelo Anthony?
Yes
No

The Sixers and Denver are talking about a potential trade that would bring Carmelo Anthony to Philadelphia and send Andre Iguodala to Denver, a Western Conference executive has confirmed to the Daily News.

The executive said Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri has spoken with Ed Stefanski.

Other players would need to be involved in the trade to match salaries.

The Sixers are not among the four teams that Anthony has said are his preferred destinations, with Chicago and New York at the top of his list.

The Sixers also would need to get Anthony to sign an extension. His contract expires after the season and he has not signed a 3-year extension offered by Denver.

Iguodala agreed to a 6-year, $80 million contract with the Sixers in August 2008.

Reports late last week had Anthony close to going to New Jersey in a complex four-team deal that also involved Utah and Charlotte.  The New York Daily News is reporting that the Bobcats are holding up the deal, unwilling to include point guard D.J. Augustin. Charlotte was expecting Augustin would replace Raymond Felton, who left this offseason via free agency.

With that deal in peril, the Nuggets have explored other options.

Indications are that the Nuggets would like a deal done before they begin training camp tomorrow.

by the way, this might be a case of the 76ers trying to steal the spotlight from the NL East winning Phillies, the Eastern Conference Champ Flyers and the Michael Vick Eagles. tsk tsk tsk...go 76ers!!!

As I commented in an earlier post (not approved apparently) if this story is true, it was important for us to do our due diligence here! Again, this franchise's M.O. is not doing something when we should (like firing Stefanski after signing Brand without a full physical). Credit Thorn who knows this team will have trouble competing & is trying hard to change it's make-up THIS YEAR. Whether we will be able to resign Melo is the question but when you think about it...Thorn is the perfect GM right now for us. Given his age & that he's only signed on for 3 years, he's making moves to improve us without worrying about his job!

This deal comes down. Iggy and Kopono to the Nuggets is a perfect salary match for Anthony. You can even offer the Nuggets a first round pick. Anthony would get a max deal, become a city icon and be a limo ride to NYC whenever he wants. The Sixers would even become relevant. Remember, the Sixers management team is two former Nets guys who probably wouldn't mind sticking it to them.

I'll supply the limo to Phila. International for Iguodala.

Being that this is the Sixers, there is no way this is going to happen. Trading an overrated Iggy, at his peak value coming off the worlds, doesn't happen for this franchise. They never buy low; sell high (see Webber, Chris & Thomas, Kenny for further references). That being said, I would give up just about the entire franchise to get Melo. It would certainly make them somewhat more relevant in this city.

I'd love to see Melo in Philly, but he's going to NY. Whether it be this year or next.

If we do this deal we have serious defensive liabilities except for Jrue and he's inexperienced although he loves to play defense. On the other side of the coin, even if Melo refused to resign I'd still do the deal knowing that at the end of the year we get that monster salary off the books and we can go out and get a top of the line small forward who plays on both sides of the ball.

This isnt going to happen, but let's say in the stephanski bizzaro world that it was possible, why do they need carmelo to sign any extension? Let iggy and his way inflated contract go. Send them elton Brand too. This team stinks. you have nothing to lose. When Carmelo walks next year at least you have some cap room. Does anything I just said make any sense? No. But thats the point with this dead league and its salary cap rules and contracts that hold bad teams down for a decade. none of it makes any sense.

If the Nugeets want the over-rated and over paid Iggy, trade him. Iggy's game has never evolved; he's no leading man just a second fiddle. Trade him NOW.....

Who cares about the NBA. All the good players will only play on certain teams so soon the NBA will be maybe a 6 team league. The rest of the teams will only be minor leagues until the players contract is over and he can move on to the BIG 6. The NBA is a JOKE!!!!

Once a dummy always a dummy always a dummy! Carmelo has no leadership skills since coming into the NBA, no heart, and being from NY will never give his herat to this city. ONce we get Carmelo then what we become the team that has one start and no other parts. No we need Iggy and Anthony to make this right.
