Sixers exercise options on Holiday, Speights

The Sixers have exercised their third-year option on guard Jrue Holiday and fourth-year option on forward/center Marreese Speights. Both players are now under contract through the 2011-12 season.

Holiday was the 17th overall pick in 2009 and was the youngest player in the league last season. In 73 games with 51 starts, Holiday averaged 8.0 points, 3.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.09 steals in 24.2 minutes per game. Over the final 16 games, he averaged 12.0 points, 6.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.94 steals.

Speights was the 16th overall pick in 2008. In 141 career games, he has averaged 8.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game while shooting 49.0 percent from the floor.

The Sixers also waived forward/center Trent Plaisted and guard Chris Quinn. The roster now stands at 14 heading into the season opener Wednesday against Miami.

Plaisted appeared in two games with one start this preseason, averaging 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game.  Quinn saw action in three games this preseason for a total of 21 minutes.

The Sixers are off today and return to practice tomorrow.
