hawes... you will not be missed.. I would rather have Jason smith back than greg oden.. oden is a drinker loves the night life. read that. based on the injuries.. I believe that. bringing back smith would be my priority/mission this off season. MIKE CONLEY RECIEVED 9 MIL PER!! lol. never.. horford recieved 12mil.. i would offer jason mike conley money. maybe 10. combocancer1975
relax people we have the right to match. make him play the entire year. and earn the money. its not that they dont want him. i like thad but he has to defend his position.. and perfect that runner/floater.. sp8ts has his j locked. and 6'10" lol duracorr.. ahhhhhh randy ayers.. i said the same thing WTF! RANDY AYERS. AND THAD YOU ARE LISTENING TO HIM?? Mark Price had you shooting lights out the entire season.. I remember that.. I remember. give me some D .. shot blocking.. defense is heart/knowing the scouting report... and making them do something else.. The first rule in battle .. KNOW YOUR OPPONENT! when i see you sag on matt bonner.. that tells me you have not studied the scouting report or lazy on d son.. Neither one are good.. I CANT/ WONT OVER PAY YOU IF THATS HOW YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR OPPONENT!!!! so i will watch you play this season allow you to test the waters and be prepared to match.. but i will over pay right now. combocancer1975
This is a huge step in the right direction. The Sixers are not giving a long term, riduculous contract to a player who may(or may not) become a better player. You have another 79 games(unfortunately) this season to see what he can do. Let the market determine what he is worth. If it is reasonable, you can match, if it is Billy King signing him to a five year $80 million dollar deal with the Nets, you can laugh. Declining the extension is not a big move, but it is a step in the right direction. syddan26
Smart move. Young is a tweener forward who doesn't play D or rebound particularly well, and hasn't been able to crack the starting line-up. And his agent wanted a deal in the neighborhood of $10M a year? An extension would have been a disaster. Let's see what other teams offer; I'm guessing in the MLE range, tops. FKD215
No extension for a player who's #8 in FG% and #8 in steals per game among all forwards in the entire NBA after 3 games???? Thad's also #2 and #3 respectively,in those categories in the Eastern Conference for forwards according to official NBA stats. All ,while coming off the bench!! it's very early in the season. But still.... no extension for that 22 year old?? philsix6
Let us hope that Rod Thorn and Doug Collins (forget Stefanski, who should go back to selling insurance) have an actual plan. chuckw

Comment removed.- you want to tell me why someone like Speights who cant play a lick of defense was resigned, but Thad who can play multiple positions and plays both ends of the court was not offered an extension? Dawk20
Thad is not a supremely well-rounded player, but if he gets minutes he is a talented offensive weapon who can rebound. I agree that he along with Speights and Lou have essentially been stunted by a carousel of inept coaches. Wow, equating him to Rodney Carney? I gues pot IS back. auntesther- Thad plays hard. They chose not to extend him. Speights plays like a dog they re-up that fool.
I used to be a big Thad young supporter. I thought his talents were wasted or spoiled by Jordan, but this year so far he has not shown anything but scoring ability in close and his shot has not come back to what it was before a Sixers assistant "fixed it" last year. To sign him to an extension would have been a mistake.

They are waiting to sign Shavlick Randolph to a multi million dollar contract. markperantoni
for those praising Young's ability, you clearly have no way of judging defensive talent (read: he's awful). Also, his rebounding and assist rates are horrible. He's a one-dimensional player, and even that dimension is so-so. Smart move. psalveso
Another disappointing decision by the sick-sers. Their decisions insure a sick team for a long time. Thad Young is the best talent on the team. He is not used correctly. reveugene
Thank God for Rod Thorn. If this was BK or ES he'd get a contract that would financially cripple us past 2015. This guy can be a valuable trade chip. Package him with Iguodala and we can finally get a nice bigman in return! CallerNo9
Thad must have lost his trade value also but the good news is Greg Oden is also being released this year, I think this kid can help us to turn things around for both of us. Shucks see if we can get him now why wait till all the other sharks start swaming in? rayzoe
Smart move, right now Thad is Rodney Carney, flashes of exciting play but no consistency. If he pulls it together this year and is someone they wish to build around then they retain matching rights. JBP- good move. the last thing we need is to sign an over rated player to an over sized contract - case in point, their entire roster basically. CosmoK
- thad stinks.
- A good move as he is a restricted free agent. They can see what the market will bear and then make a decision to match any offer. Rod Thorn actually know what he's doing folks.
play him at the 3 position where he belongs and sign him! why do the Sixers keep making dumb moves? I hoped Thorn and Collins would make good basketball decisions. bill poore
Dumb move. Young isn't used correctly. Use him right and he's a 18-20 point scorer a night. K.D.
