Pinckney Leaving SportsNet

POSTED: Friday, September 10, 2010, 6:22 PM

Ed Pinckney's tenure with Comcast SportsNet as the 76ers' analyst was brief. He is leaving after one season to join the coaching staff of the Chicago Bulls.

This was a very difficult decision for Pinckney, who thoroughly enjoyed his role sitting next to play-by-play voice Marc Zumoff, but he has a long-standing relationship with Tom Thibodeau, the Bulls' new coach.

Pinckeny confirmed the move to the Daily News, but declined to comment until a formal announcement comes from SportsNet and the Bulls.

Pinckney, 47, was the centerpiece of Villanova's NCAA championship in 1985. He was the No. 10 overall pick in the NBA's 1985 draft, slected by the Phoenix Suns. In the course of his career, he also logged time with Sacramento, Boston, Milwaukee, Toronto, the Sixers and Miami. He retired in 1997.

Since then, he has done radio and TV work for the Heat and has served as an assistant coach for Villanova and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Steve Mix never should have been fired in the first place. It's unanimous. Bring him back.

Pinckney was the Sarge Matthews of the telecast, adding next to nothing. Throw my vote for Mix into the mix. He dates back to the Collins era when the Sixers were becoming good again.

Comcast Sportsnet makes some pretty dumb broadcasting decisions. They fire Mix for, uh, what reason again? They keep Coatesy every year, and his minor-league shtick makes a Flyers broadcast sound like a drunken uncle backyard barbecue (though kudos are due for bringing Bill Clement back). Just about every studio host/anchor may as well wear a sign that says, "I say what Comcast says is ok". Every show on CSN needs more cajones.

I agree with the other posters - we need Steve Mix back! If not then I vote for Jaime Maggio - the more she is on TV the better!

well comcast take a look and it is about 100% in support of mix, just tell him not to criticize the other team when they are beating the sixers by 15 as he has a habbit of doing.
