Agent: Jackson won't interview with Sixers
Mark Jackson, the former NBA point guard and current ESPN analyst, has decided to decline an opportunity to interview for the 76ers’ coaching job.
"It’s just not the right situation for him at this time,’’ was all that was offered by Steve Kauffman, Jackson’s agent.
The Sixers had been trying to schedule a meeting with Jackson, but Jackson sent word Tuesday that he was trying to determine whether he wanted to proceed. He informed Kauffman today of his decision. He is expected to interview for the New Orleans Hornets job, and is hopeful of being contacted by the Los Angeles Clippers and possibly the New Jersey Nets.
Jackson appeared in 1,296 regular-season games before retiring after the 2003-04 season, but has never coached. He was a first-round draft choice of the New York Knicks in 1987, and later logged time with the Clippers, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets, Toronto Raptors and Utah Jazz.
The Sixers, meanwhile, are in the process of scheduling a meeting with former Sixer Monty Williams, who has spent the last five seasons as an assistant with the Portland Trail Blazers. He interviewed last year for the Minnesota Timberwolves job that eventually went to Los Angeles Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis.
To this point, the Sixers are known to have met with former Sixers star and current TNT analyst Doug Collins and with former Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson.
Seriously .. who does Mark Jackson think he is ? Does he think he should get the Lakers job if Phil Jackson steps down .. or maybe give him the Magic job ... I can't stand him ... not willing to put some time in as an asst coach i hope he never gets a head coaching gig azsixerfan
Comment removed.- Allow me to elaborate: If I were Snider or Luuko, I would be so embarrased by this that I would fire Stiffanski just on Principle. What a joke. Circus is in town. Every time I see anything Sixers, that carnival music goes through my head.
Yeah, wow, it is pretty bad when a guy who has never coached a game in his life doesn't even want to interview with this team. superabound
its bad when you got a loser like mark jackson refusing to come to town because he HOPES the CLIPPER? and NETS? offer him a job? Wise_Owl
@azsixerfan...would you want to coach this team? Stefanski hired Jordan because nobody else wanted the job. mfecani
who needs him,the team should disband screwhead23
I don't know how many times I have to repeat myself. Why is Ed Stefanski still here? Hasn't he butchered enough big moves in just 30 short months? Dean1
Swallow your pride, and bring Cheeks back. Why did he get fired in the first place?? Leron
Best news yet...probably coaches as bad as he announces. clobal

Am I missing something? Did Mark Jackson accomplish anything as a coach? Wait, did he stand-out as a premier NBA player? ahh.. NOPE! USAFirst1
smart man there. LGbalsac
Wow, we just got played by Marc Jackson?! Mark Jackson people! I laughed when I heard our genius GM even put him on the list. When I saw this, I just started shaking my head. I'd cry if it weren't so damn pathetic. Do you think Eagles still have left-over brown bags from the Kotite era for Sixer fans to put on their heads for the upcoming season? DennyP
