Mike Kern reporting ...

Former Sixers forward Charles Barkley said he thinks the team should hire Eddie Jordan as its next coach.

Speaking on a conference call to promote the American Century Championship of celebrity golf, Barkley said, "I think Eddie Jordan would be a fine choice. They’re going to have a good, solid team. They’re pretty much stuck with the team they’ve got for the next few years, because they’re paying guys so much money. I think he’s a helluva coach. He did a good job with Washington. That team probably overachieved. Him getting to the playoffs every year, people thought they deserved to go further, but they weren’t that good. And Tony DiLeo, he did a good job. This year, you’ve got to give him credit. But he wanted to go back upstairs.”

Barkley, coming off his work with noted golf instructor Hank Haney, is among the celebrities in the field for the July event in Lake Tahoe.

They still have to sell tickets. No superstars and a vanilla coach? Would you pay to see that?

I think this upcoming season all depends on Elton Brand. If he can provide some flashbacks of before his Achilles injury, people will start to come. We need a coach that knows how to utilize a cutting team with a lack of down-low presence.

I'd pay to see Barkley coach the Sixers!

Hey Jonkap, if they play quality, winning basketball, the lack of "superstars" should mean nothing.

I lost all my respect for Charles after his DUI arrest recently. He has and always will make off the wall statements. How could he say the 76er's have a good team without Miller, he well be gone in FA, and stuck with Dalembert and Green due to huge contracts thanks to Billy King. King should have been fired years before he was. He also traded away their only perimeter shooter in Korver. They pick 17th and no 2nd round pick this year. How is this team going to be a serious contender? It doesn't matter who the coach is there isn't enough talent on this team to be a contender for years to come. AI is overrated. He can not dribble the ball in motion without losing it. Thank God for the Eagles and Phillies.

Do we really care what CB says? Eddie Jordan? No! Casey? NO! He had a losing record with Garnett...what's he going to do with this group? The coach should be Jeff Van Gundy or Doug Collins.

I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that by "vanilla coach" JonKap was saying that a coach who's not a big name (in other words, as plain as vanilla)won't help the Sixers to sell tickets. Perhaps, mdg625553, it was you who was the one who brought race into this.

Hey The marco islander it was Ed Stefanski that traded Korver. But yeah Billy King did a poor job while he was in charge. I don't think Charles cares how much respect you lost for him due to his DUI, people are arrested every day for DUIs, if you drink and drive it will happen.

Face it, the Sixers threw money at unproven players, who still haven't lived up to their paychecks, now they are stuck with these clowns until the contracts run out. No one is gonna pay real money for a fake center like Sammy, no one. After his S ixers contract is up, I see Sammy in Europe, or the CBA, he will never be a premier player in the NBA. The crappy team you see today is all Billy King's fault.
