Weekend event at Bache-Martin features "Nova basketball coach

Come Out and Meet Coach Jay Wright and the Villanova Men's Basketball Team in Fairmount.

One of the best parts about living in the city these days is watching parents who are trying to improve their local schools. In my neighborhood, a group of parents has pulled together around Bache-Martin, the local elementary school that primarily serves Fairmount and Francisville.

If you want to help - or meet the Villanova Men's Basketball Coach - Saturday is your day.

And if you have events planned for your school, let me know, and I'll put those on the blog, too.

Here is what neighbors for Bache-Martin has planned:

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 24, the Villanova Men's Basketball Team and Head Coach Jay Wright will be at the Bache-Martin School doing beautification work as a part of Villanova's Day of Service. The group will garden and spruce up around the school and is eager for others to help with weeding, mulching and planting.

Bache-Martin is at 2201 Brown Street, near the historic penitentiary.

Also, PlayWorks, the "recess coach" at Bache-Martin, will run games on the Brown Street Lawn for kids including kickball, hula hoops, simon says, etc.
