I've just had it confirmed to me that Vince Curran has joined the Penn basketball team's coaching staff.

Curran, who played at Penn from 1988 to 1992, will fill the slot that had been occupied by Jerome Allen before Glen Miller was fired. Now Allen is the head coach, and Curran will move from press row to the bench.

Curran was a senior when Allen was a freshman, and the two have remained close. We all know how involved Curran is with the Penn program, and I've been told he wanted to help Allen in his first season as a head coach.

I have yet to reach any of Curran's horses for comment, but I'll let you know if they have anything to say.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
