Not surprisingly, the mood outside the Penn locker room after Saturday night's 65-48 rout of Brown was much brighter than it was after Friday's loss at Yale.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Not surprisingly, the mood outside the Penn locker room after Saturday night's 65-48 rout of Brown was much brighter than it was after Friday's loss at Yale.
Still, the Quakers insisted they have a lot of work to do, especially with Harvard coming to the Palestra on Friday.

Two other things worth noting:
- This was the first time all season that Penn won with Tyler Bernardini scoring fewer than 10 points. Prior to Saturday, Bernardini had only scored in single figures four times this season: against Temple, James Madison, Duke and Yale.
At halftime of this game, Penn fan Mark Greenspan noted to me that the Quakers had yet to win a game this season in which Bernardini was in single figures. The senior guard had six points at intermission.
I wondered aloud whether it was possible for Penn to win with Bernardini scoring fewer than 10 points, then figured he'd find a way to score four in the second half. He only got three, but Penn still won.
- This was the first time in Allen's career that he won a game when wearing one of his varsity sweaters. This time, it was the red sweater with the blue P that he wore in his first ever game against Princeton.
Allen lost that game, and I distinctly remember him saying afterwards that because of that he wouldn't wear the sweater anymore. So I asked him why he brought it back.
His answer:
I just decided to wear it for no particular reason. It means the world to me - I try not to ever forget that I'm also a part of this program in the capacity that I sit in. But it's not about me or my experiences. I have a sweater that carries our colors and I put it on if I don't feel like putting on a suit jacket and a tie. That's really about it.
Allen's record when wearing varsity sweaters is now 1-3. He is 1-1 wearing the red sweater with the blue P in the middle, and 0-2 wearing the blue sweater with the red P in one corner. That sweater was worn in Friday's game against Yale, and in the home opener against Temple at the beginning of the season.
