As an Abington township high school kid in the fifties, the high life was a ticket to a Big Five doubleheader in the Palestra. "Heaven" was a ticket to a tripleheader where all the teams played - six-plus hours of screaming. This game tonight was one that neither team deserved to lose. Move over Messrs Williams, Kryzewski, Williams, Calhoun, Calipari, Pitino, Larranega (George Mason), and some others, there is also a Mr. Wright among you. John Cheney would be proud of a team that plays defense like Villanova. Tonight's game was definitely "two" to the 1985 NCAA Final game. It was spellbinding. No game is perfect (but Villanova's 1985 NCAA final game almost was), and Pitt's effort is not to be faulted. Villanova has taken Philly defense to a new level.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
