Fortunately, most twisters that form in the Philadelphia area are short-lived and nowhere near as powerful as the one that killed two dozen people in Oklahoma on May 20, 2013. But some deaths have occurred, including three in Montgomery County in 1994, and some twisters have done a million dollars or more in damage. At least 15 tornadoes have been confirmed over the last decade in Philadelphia, its suburban counties, South Jersey and northern Delaware.
