5 stories to follow: Sept. 6

Happy Friday, everyone. Before the weekend starts, here's a quick look at five stories to know about:

1. PFT-District talks resume: Negotiations are set to resume today for the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers and the Philadelphia School District. The two are working out a new contract for instructors; the district is seeking savings and work-rule changes from the teachers to help close a $220 million deficit. Classes are scheduled to begin Monday. Meanwhile, parents of children with special needs are concerned the district won't be able to adequately serve those students due to cutbacks.

2. Family murder-suicide: An apparent family murder-suicide in Philadelphia's Juniata section overnight has left a man and his 10-year-old son dead, and the boy's mother critically wounded. Police believe the 48-year-old father shot his wife and son, then turned the gun on himself.

3. Pathmarks closing: Three Pathmark grocery stores in South Jersey will shut their doors today. Parent company A&P announced the closings of the Cherry Hill, Camden and Edgewater Park Pathmarks this summer.

4. Ginsburg at NCC: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will speak at the National Constitution Center tonight. Organizers say to expect a wide-ranging conversation between Ginsburg and center president Jeffrey Rosen. The sold-out program will also be streamed on the center's website.

5. Fulbrook memorial service: A memorial service for longtime Camden community activist Frank Fulbrook will be held this afternoon. The service will take place at Sacred Heart Church from 1 to 4 p.m. Fulbrook died last week at age 64.
