5 stories to follow: July 3

Get your day started with a look at five stories we'll be following:

1. Boy remains missing in creek: Rescue crews will decide this morning whether to resume searching for 13-year-old Brandon Boyle, who is believed to have drowned in Pennypack Creek while playing the water with his brother. The two were swept up in the swollen creek waters Monday afternoon and 11-year-old Anthony was rescued by an off-duty police officer. Crews combed the creek again on Tuesday, searching for Brandon, but called off the operation in the evening due to rain.

2. More early Independence Day events: Events celebrating Independence Day continue in Philadelphia today. After yesterday's four-ton hoagie on Independence Mall, events today include fitness activities for children in Fairmount Park, a Philly Pops! concert at Independence Hall, the City Festival at the Piazza, a July 4 pre-party with D'Angelo and Questlove at the TLA, some fireworks displays around the region and more.

3. New police officers: The Philadelphia Police Department's 363rd class is scheduled to graduate today.

4. Plea for Gosnell: The West Philadelphia abortion doctor has changed his mind yet again about a plea deal with federal prosecutors over narcotics charges. Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 72, was convicted earlier this year of killing babies born alive at his clinic. His attorney and prosecutors are expected to work out the details of a new plea agreement for the drug charges over the weekend and make it official in court next week.

5. Holiday travel: The Fourth of July holiday travel period kicks off today. AAA projects that about 548,000 people in Philadelphia and the city's Pennsylvania suburbs will hit the roads, rails and skies for the holiday, while about 1.2 million New Jersey residents will travel for the Fourth.
