5 stories to follow: Jan. 16

Here's your daily look at five stories we're following today:

1. New Comcast tower: Comcast Corp. has announced plans to build a new $1.2 billion skyscraper in Center City. The 1,121-foot-tall building will be a adjacent to -- and taller than -- the company's current high-rise. The tower is slated to break ground this summer, and will be the tallest building in the city once completed. Here's Inga Saffron's take on Comcast's plans.

2. Reward in cold-case cop killing: The 1970 slaying of Frederick Cione is the only unsolved slaying of a Philadelphia police officer, and the National Police Defense Foundation will post a $10,000 reward today for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

3. Christie meeting with Sandy victims: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is meeting today with homeowners affected by Superstorm Sandy. The governor is facing criticism over the George Washington Bridge lane closures scandal, and federal authorities are examining whether he improperly used Sandy relief aid in ads featuring himself and his family. Christie is meeting with homeowners at a Manahawkin firehouse this morning. Meanwhile, state legislators are preparing to issue new subpoenas related to the bridge investigation.

4. Charter school renewals: The Philadelphia School Reform Commission is set to vote tonight on a number of charter-school issues, including whether two charters founded by Dorothy June Brown should be renewed. Brown was acquitted last week of some charges in a federal fraud trial; the jury deadlocked on dozens of other counts.

5. College leaders meet with Obama: President Obama is slated to meet with a group of 150 education leaders, including the presidents of Bryn Mawr and Montgomery County Community colleges, today at a summit about increasing college opportunities for low-income students.
