'Nova gets commitment from top NYC player

Villanova's basketball program has landed another prized recruit for next year's class.

Today, the Wildcats received a verbal commitment from 6-6, 235-pound power forward Jayvaughn Pinkston, who averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds last season for Bishop Loughlin High in Brooklyn. Many consider him to be the best prospect coming out of New York.

As of 2 weeks ago, he was supposedly headed to Tennessee, but changed his mind when another New Yorker who plays that position, Tobias Harris, signed with the Volunteers. Other schools that had offered him a scholarship were Marquette, St. John's and Seton Hall. He can't officially sign until April, which means Villanova isn't allowed to comment until then.

The Wildcats already have signed James Bell, a shooting guard/small forward from Florida, and Markus Kennedy, a 6-10 center from the Philadelphia area who is spending this season at a prep school in Massachusetts.
