Philly mag's Platt goes balls out on parting gift

Larry Platt is trying to secure his position as the inappropriate boss most closely resembling Michael Scott of "The Office." The Philadelphia magazine editor recently gave a framed photo of a noncancerous cyst removed from his left testicle as a goodbye gift to food editor Ashley Primis.

Platt swears Primis was "touched" by his gesture. Primis says that "while appreciated, it hasn't quite made it to my new office just yet." She's now director of special projects for Stephen Starr's company. Food writer Kirsten Henri, last of the blog Grub Street, has taken her place.

As for Platt, he's grateful to William Schwab, the Penn Presbyterian surgeon who removed the two-inch-long cyst. "Yes, it was painful, but I'm glad to be back to a regular ball again," he told us yesterday.

* Now that your appetites are all worked up, we should mention that Philadelphia magazine on Thursday is hosting a four-course dinner by Marc Vetri and Boston chef Barbara Lynch at Vetri's Osteria (640 N. Broad).

Cost is $150, which includes Lynch's cookbook, or $350, which also includes a $250 ticket to the June 15 Great Chefs Event to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand charity. You may register online at vetrifoundation.org.
