Philly-shot Shyamalan flick gets a release date

M. Night Shyamalan will give moviegoers a little glimpse of Philly next year. "The Visit," formerly known as "Sundowning," has an official release date: September 11, 2015.

Shyamalan shot the movie covertly in his regular Bucks County haunts earlier this year, starring Kathryn Hahn (usually known for her comedic turns in movies like "Anchorman" and "Step Brothers").

Deadline has the most detailed plot description I've seen of the under wraps flick:

"The Visit" focuses on a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents' remote Pennsylvania farm for a week long trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day.

This movie is meant to be a return to Shyamalan's earlier pictures, straying far from the big budget grandiosity of bombs The Last Airbender and After Earth. Shyamalan's next endeavor will be for the small screen though. He's been working on "Wayward Pines," a "Twin Peaks"-esque mini series for Fox featuring Matt Dillon, Lafayette Hill's own Terrance Howard and Carla Gugino. Alas, that was not shot in Philadelphia. Shyamalan's next movie, "Labor of Love" starring Shyamalan's "The Sixth Sense" star Bruce Willis, was set to start shooting Philadelphia but I hear it has been pushed back.
