Funny or Die rips off Sweatheart video

Sweatheart, a local band/performance art troupe was surprised this week to see a video called "Finger Babies," on Funny or Die, which strongly resembles its 2006 video for its instant classic, "Finger Bangin.'"

We pointed out the similarity to Sweatheart and "Fingerbangin'" director Ted Passon who said that "At first glance, I thought they ripped it off. But I don't like to waste time getting mad about it," Passon told us by phone.

"Finger Babies," which stars Eric McCormack and Ardmore native "Office" actress Kate Flannery, was directed by Ben Berman, who used to live in Philadelphia and who knows Passon. Passon contacted Berman, who now lives and works in Los Angeles, through Facebook.

"I guess we unknowingly retreaded on some of your old territory. That's funny," Berman told Passon. "You want me to yell at that the writer at Funny or Die for stealing your idea? I did see your video when you first put it out and still like it," Berman wrote to Passon.

Sweatheart, which now counts rapper Amanda Blank as a member, alongside longtime leaders Thom Lessner and Rose Luardo, perform Saturday in Columbus, OH.
