Football: DE Smith enrolls at Timber Creek

Former Williamstown High School standout defensive end Eric Smith has enrolled at rival Timber Creek, Black Horse Pike school district athletic director Frank Torcasio confirmed on Wednesday.

Torcasio said Smith, who helped Williamstown to the South Jersey Group 5 title game last season, is not yet eligible to play pending "paperwork" and will not participate in the Chargers' season opener Friday at Delsea.

Torcasio said Smith enrolled at Timber Creek "last week."

Smith arrives at the school as the football team is under investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

The CCPO on Aug. 26 issued a statement confirming that the county's top law enforcement agency is "continuing to conduct a comprehensive investigation into allegations involving the Timber Creek High School football program."

The Black Horse Pike school district also has issued a statement that the district is "cooperating" with the investigation into "residency issues."

The investigation is believed to have resulted from an anonymous 13-game letter that was sent to the CCPO as well as the NJSIAA in May, claiming to provide evidence of falsified addresses and other rules violations involving Timber Creek football players.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Smith made 123 tackles with six sacks last season for Williamstown.

He was named to the Group 5 all-state first-team by nj.com. Smith had two sacks in a playoff victory over Washington Township and recovered a fumble in overtime in a playoff victory over Cherokee.
