Football: 12 games of note this weekend

Here are 12 games of note this weekend in South Jersey football:

Friday (All games at 7 except St. Augustine at Millville at 6)

No. 15 Burlington Twp. (2-0) at No. 4 Lenape (2-0): This is a key WJFL Capitol Division game. The Falcons and Indians both are 1-0 in the division, as is Rancocas Valley. BT is coming off a 21-14 win over Paul VI. The Falcons have a potent offense with top weapons in seniors such as QB Bryan Pettway, RB Drew Price and WR Everett Wormley. Lenape has allowed just one TD this season, and that came after a long kickoff return in a 37-7 win over EHT. Senior DBs Tim Montgomery and Mike Doulong and junior DE Aaron Acosta lead the Lenape D.

No. 18 Cinnaminson (2-0) at Holy Cross (1-1): This might be the WJFL Liberty Division title game. The Pirates are off to a good start, averaging 40.5 points behind senior QB Shaun Davilla and sophomore RB Rashad Raymond. HC will look to bounce back from a tough loss to Haddonfield. Junior QB Jeff Undercuffler and junior RB Tim Petrucelli are among the players to watch for the Lancers.

No. 22 Clearview (2-0) at No. 2 Timber Creek (2-0): The Pioneers are 2-0 for the first time since 2007. Senior QB Jarrett Baker and senior all-purpose Gyair Sharper have led the way. Through two games, TC looks like the team to beat in the WJFL National as well as S.J. 4. The Chargers' OL and ground game were keys to an impressive road win at Cherokee on Friday.

No. 20 Pennsville (2-0) at Deptford (2-0): With the Eagles having moved up to the WJFL Diamond, this looms as a key game in the division race. Pennsville has won nine in a row since last October, including the S.J. 1 title. The Eagles have a player to watch in WR/DB/K Logan Johnston. Deptford is coming off a 29-28 OT win over Gateway as Darius Dowd crashed in for the two-point conversion after Riley Giles' TD pass to Tavon Fox-Ballard.

Paul VI (1-1) at No. 16 Delsea (0-2): Slow starts are nothing new for the Crusaders but they surely want to avoid an 0-3 hole. Coach Sal Marchese Jr. said he saw signs of "improvement" from his team in Saturday's 28-21 road loss at new No. 3 Cedar Creek. PVI has been impressive under new coach Phil Brunozzi, especially in pushing Burlington Twp. to the brink on Friday night. A win at Delsea would be a big deal for the Eagles.

No. 17 Williamstown (1-1) at No. 12 Hammonton (1-1): Both teams are coming off losses and both will be battling to stay in contention in the typically loaded WJFL American Division. This could be one of the weekend's hardest-hitting games since both programs pride themselves on physical play and look to their front lines to set the tone. The status of Hammonton senior QB Malachi Winters, who has a scholarship offer from Army, is a question mark. He sat out Friday's loss to Rancocas Valley with a shoulder ailment.

No. 1 St. Augustine (3-0) at No. 14 Millville (2-0): This is a 'homecoming' game for SA players who live in Millville, including senior all-purpose Zeke Ennis and junior QB Josh Zamot and junior DB Shamere Collins. Ennis calls Millville standout Clayton Scott his "best friend." SA has scored 47, 46 and 48 points in its first three games. Millville has not allowed a point.Something has to give in this WJFL Continental clash.

Seneca (1-1) at No. 21 Camden (0-1): The host Panthers are coming off an early bye after a tough OT loss to Camden Catholic in the Sept. 9 opener. The Golden Eagles bounced back from a 15-13 loss to CH West on opening night with an impressive win over Moorestown on Friday. Both are are 0-1 in the WJFL Constitution and are chasing 1-0 Pennsauken, CH West and CC in the division race.

No. 6 Shawnee (2-0) at Washington Twp. (1-1): One of the host Minutemen's biggest wins last season was 19-17 over Shawnee. WT is coming off a late rally and victory over Atlantic City, with senior QB Mike Piperno leading the way. Shawnee has ground out a couple tough wins, over arch-rival Cherokee and Allentown. Senior RB/LBs Jax Luzinski and Dan Wigley are among the Renegades to watch in this WJFL American game.

Cherry Hill East (0-2) at Eastern (1-1): After going 1-9 in each of the last two seasons, the host Vikings have a chance to get to 2-1. Eastern rallied to beat Trenton 15-12 on Saturday. CH East beat Eastern 28-21 in the 2015 opener. The Cougars are looking to get on track this season.

Saturday

Haddon Heights (2-0) at Woodbury (1-1), 10:30: The winner gets to 2-0 in the WJFL Memorial Division. HH is 2-0 for the first time since 2012 and has been averaged 34 points behind junior QB Matt DiOrio. Woodbury beat Paulsboro in the opener and lost a hard-fought battle with defending SJ 1 champion Pennsville on Saturday. Senior RB/LB Daquan Solomon is a player to watch for the Thundering Herd.

No. 19 Cherry Hill West (2-0) at No. 24 Pennsauken (2-0), noon: CHW is looking to go 3-0 for the first time since 1967. Their coach back then was Vince McAneney. Saturday's WJFL Constitution game at Pennsauken will be played at Vince McAneney Field. CHW senior all-purpose Harrison Hand has made big plays in both the Lions' victories. Pennsauken has scored 42 points in each of the first two games. Senior RB Martin Booker Jr. and senior QB Zaire Davis have led the way.
