Boys' Basketball: Games to watch this week

After a choppy three weeks because of the holidays, the South Jersey boys' basketball season hits its stride this week.

Here are several games of note:

Monday

St. Augustine at Holy Spirit, 7: The top-ranked Hermits have a big edge on paper but face a tough task against their spirited rivals, especially on the Spartans' home court. The Prep's senior guard Austin Kennedy is a player to watch.

Tuesday

Camden at Camden Catholic, 3:45: The No. 2 Panthers have yet to play a close game but the Irish always seem to play well against their long-time rivals. This is a big game for emerging CC sophomore forward Bab Ajike.

Eastern at Lenape, 6: This game has major implications in the Olympic American race as well as the jostling for SJ 4 playoff seeds. The Vikings have won five of six behind junior guard Jesse Barbera.

Thursday

Haddonfield at Haddon Heights, 7: The unbeaten Bulldawgs travel a couple of miles down Kings Highway to meet their long-time rivals. Good backcourts in play here with Haddonfield's Mike DiPersia and Will Bond and Haddon Heights' Jared Latane and Robert Tindley.

Shawnee at Timber Creek, 7: This is a key Olympic Patriot battle. The unbeaten Renegades have the look of some of veteran coach Joe Kessler's best teams: Patient, unselfish, good-shooting squads that spread the floor. TC junior Maurice Murray is a player to watch.

Williamstown at Highland, 7: These Tri-Co Royal rivals waged spirited battles last season and likely will go at it again. Williamstown's Mike Patterson and Highland's Zafir Brower are junior guards who can light it up.

Saturday

Bordentown vs. Washington Township at Pemberton, 3:30: This interesting clash is part of a showcase and features two Top 15 teams. Bordentown senior Manny Ansong has taken his game to another level this season, with 83 points in three victories last week. WT seniors Rich Racobaldo and NaQuan McPherson are players to watch.

Atlantic City at St. Augustine, 6: This clash of CAL American rivals pits the No. 3 team in SJ vs. the No. 1 team. The gym will be packed, the Rowdies will be in full voice and both teams will get a better gauge of their early-January status.
