Baseball: Millville beats St. Augustine

Senior Aaron Cox pitched a four-hit complete game with nine strikeouts as Millville beat St. Augustine, 2-0, Tuesday in Cape-Atlantic American I play.

Cox also was the game's hitting star with a solo home run and a double. He scored both of Millville's runs.

Cox outdueled St. Augustine senior Kevin Baxter, who also worked a complete game and also allowed just four hits.

Millville (6-0) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth as Cox led off with a double and eventually scored on a two-out single by Kenny Dunns.

Millville doubled its lead to 2-0 in the sixth as Cox hit a 1-0 pitch over the centerfield fence.

St. Augustine (2-1) has some early chances, stranding five base-runners in the first three innings. But Cox retired 11 of the final 13 batters, striking out the side in the 7th inning.

Cox is wearing No. 1 for Millville. He is the first thunderbolts player to wear that jersey since Mike Trout in 2009.

Trout hit a SJ record 18 home runs that season. He was a No. 1 draft choice by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and currently plays for the Angels' triple A affiliate in Salt Lake -- although he appears to be destined to join the big club before long.

Trout, who played in 40 games for the Angels last season, is off to a 10-for-20 start for Salt Lake. He is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in baseball.

"It's an honor," Cox said of wearing Trout's jersey.

For one game, he made that jersey look even better.
