The National Football League announced Tuesday afternoon that NFL Films president Steve Sabol has passed away due to brain cancer at age 69.

Sabol's father, Ed, founded NFL Films. The company has long been based in Mount Laurel, N.J., and has seen plenty of Eagles players and local broadcasters stop by to record videos over the years.

Steve was diagnosed with an unremovable brain tumor last year, but he was able to make it to Canton to give the Hall of Fame induction speech when his father was enshrined.

His battle to survive lasted 18 months.

In a statement issued by the NFL, commissioner Roger Goodell praised Sabol for being "the creative genius behind the remarkable work of NFL Films."

"Steve's passion for football was matched by his incredible talent and energy," Goodell said. "Steve's legacy will be part of the NFL forever. He was a major contributor to the success of the NFL, a man who changed the way we look at football and sports, and a great friend."

We'll have a full story up later today.
