Miracle in the Meadowlands, Part 3

After the Eagles were thoroughly pummeled by Peyton Manning and the Broncos, Eagles defensive coordinator Bill Davis asked people to "trust him" when it comes to the defense.

Granted, there is a large talent gap between the Eagles starting defense and nearly every other defense in the league, and most of aren't well-suited for a 3-4 defense. But even knowing all that entering the season, I don't think fans could have predicted exactly HOW bad this defense would be.

Our own Jimmy Kempski did a great job breaking down the numbers, but a couple of facts really stood out to me.

Through their first four games, the Eagles are giving up 446 yards a game, putting them on pace to give up 7148 through the entire season, which would be the more ever allowed in the history of the NFL.

In terms of points, the Eagles are allowing 34.5 points per game. Only the lowly Giants have allowed more, and both are on pace to give up more points this season than the historically terrible 1981 Colts defense, which gave up 533 points.

Despite this, 2.9 percent of ESPN fantasy football players are currently starting the Eagles defense in their league. To channel Jerry Seinfeld, "Who are these people?"

And they say Eagles fans aren't optimistic.
