Eagles fan ‘over the moon’ that Brandon Brooks showed up to his wedding

Brandon Brooks is apparently a man of his word.

Last week, the Eagles offensive lineman received a random note from Geoffrey Lane and Marni Goldberg, diehard Birds fans living in Washington, D.C. The pair were getting married and made the spontaneous decision to include Brooks on their list of wedding invites.

Brooks shared the invitation, dated Jan 4, on Twitter last week:

Brooks had never met Lane or Goldberg, but once the offensive lineman realized the passionate Eagles fans also attended his alma mater, Miami of Ohio, he responded yes.

"I thought that there was about a 1 percent chance he would acknowledge receipt of the invitation," Lane said, noting he picked Brooks over former Phillie Chase Utley and the Flyers Claude Giroux because of the college connection.

The wedding took place Saturday afternoon, and just as he'd promised, Brooks traveled to Oxford, Ohio, to show his support for the happy bride and groom.

Matthew Lane, Geoffrey's cousin — who also happens to be a Philadelphia sports fan — heard rumblings that Brooks might actually show up. But he was still surprised when he saw the 6-foot-5 lineman walking toward the church.

"Geoff was over the moon about it," Matthew Lane said, noting that Brooks attended the ceremony and hung out with friends and family for more than two hours.

"He shook everyone's hand that came up, talked to anyone and took pictures," Matthew said. "He was like one of the guys — he fit right in."

Geoffrey Lane, who grew up in Oxford, Chester County, said he spent a lot of time speaking to Brooks and wouldn't be surprised if the lineman decided to run for office someday. But he was still shocked the offensive lineman made the decision to come.

"I asked him, 'Why the hell did you decide to drive all the way up here to come to a stranger's wedding?' " Geoffrey said he asked Brooks.

"Because you invited me," Brooks responded.
