ESPN's Colin Cowherd disparages Dominican baseball players, Dominican baseball player responds

UPDATE, 7/25: Cowherd, who was departing ESPN for FOX Sports anyway, has been let go by ESPN, even after a second, more direct apology.

UPDATE: Cowherd's finger-pointing, self-congratulatory "apology" did not gain him any mercy with the MLBPA, which issues a statement after his explanation came out:

UPDATE: Cowherd's clarification of his comments on Dominican baseball players included a comparison of himself to Jon Stewart among other humblebrags.

FROM EARLIER:

ESPN's Colin Cowherd - ESPN's for not much longer, actually, since he is leaving for FOX Sports - made a puzzling comment about Dominican baseball players while on a puzzling rant about baseball in the middle of some puzzling thoughts regarding the Miami Marlins' GM, Dan Jennings, becoming the team's manager.

In general, it was a series of moments that would have garnered little attention had Cowherd not said something racist in the middle of it.

Why Cowherd was even talking about Jennings - his move from GM to manager happened back in May - doesn't even matter anymore. All that matters is he bounced from that concept, to one about baseball not being a complicated sport, to this one:

"It's baseball. You don't think a general manager can manage? Like it's impossible? The game is too complex? I've never bought into that, 'Baseball's just too complex.' Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic."

The Blue Jays' Jose Bautista, a Dominican player, naturally had a question for Cowherd.

The MLB Players' Union is reportedly just as upset with ESPN and FOX as they are with Cowherd, for both networks' lack of response or even acknowledgement of Cowherd's statement. The list of players from the Dominican Republic currently playing Major League Baseball is very long, so Bautista is likely not the only one waiting for Cowherd to explain.
