The 2014 Annual Geek Awards were held on Saturday August 16, 2014 at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University.
Geeks from the Philadelphia region, who are some of the most innovative and forward-thinking, put away their pocket protectors, microscopes and game goggles to attend the yearly event at the appropriately scientific museum. One attendee told me that her childhood vacations were spent inside the walls of the museum and it shaped her career path as a wildlife biologist.
The evening began with a cocktail party and guests were able to wander throughout the museum. The Academy pulled out all the stops and their guides mingled and entertained the guests with live snakes, lizards, a hedgehog and a jungle nymph. After 90 minutes of munching on treats from 12th Street Catering, and enjoying Yards Beer, the guests excitedly entered the auditorium for the 2-hour awards ceremony.
