Tiki Barber to attempt comeback

Former Giants running back Tiki Barber has had enough of retirement and is going to attempt a comeback.

According to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com, Barber has already filed the paperwork with the NFL.

"After seeing how much fun Ronde is still having, it re-ignited my fire and I'm looking forward to the challenge of seeing if I can get back to the level of where I was," Barber told Glazer.

Barber, who turns 36 in April, last played with the Giants in 2006. He totaled 2,127 yards that season and averaged 5.1 yards per carry.

Per Glazer's report, the Giants have Barber's rights and will have to decide whether to keep him or release him. A league source tells Newsday's Bob Glauber that the Giants will not retain his rights.

Update: The Giants have since announced that they will release Barber when they are allowed to.

In 20 career games against the Eagles, Barber totaled 2,391 yards (rushing and receiving) and averaged 5.1 yards per carry. His 1,559 yards on the ground against the Birds was the highest total against any single opponent.

Another Giant, Plaxico Burress, will also look to get back on the field in 2011. Burress is scheduled to be released from prison on June 6.
