McNabb: 'I take full responsibility'
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
After last week's loss against the Cowboys, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was roasted by some in this city for saying the Birds showed their youth.
Tonight, he took full responsibility for the 34-14 loss.
"We just didn't capitalize on the opportunities today, and I take full responsibility for all of it," McNabb said. "For all the opportunities we had to make plays, I should have made those plays for our team, and I just didn't today."
Later, McNabb was asked about the offensive line.
"Our O-Line did a great job for me," McNabb said. "Again, it goes back to I have to make plays. I put all of it on me. Those guys did a great job."
I'm watching on TV so I couldn't see McNabb's nose growing as he delivered that answer, but it might as well have.
Of course, the focus now shifts to whether McNabb will return next season.
"I've said it ever year. I want to be here, and I don't look to be anywhere else," he said.
But would he like to revisit his contract before coming back?
"Would I like to extend and be here? Yes. Absolutely," McNabb said. "But there are a lot more other things I think we can focus in on right now. If that was to come up, then so be it."
McNabb's contract was reworked, but not extended last offseason. 2010 is the final year of his current deal.
As usual the MD's of Psyc 101 are out in full force, you can tell by the way he looks , touches or smells through a TV screen. Most of you are the same brain surgeons that wanted Ricky Williams or one of those other guys in that draft who are working for Walmart. The always say watch what you wish for!!!! Donavan I think it is time to go, I want to see what (Rich Kotite) with a winning record can do without you. thenes
Things that need to be fixed before the QB position: O-Line D-Line Linebackers Safety Offensive Coordinator Defensive Coordinator Establishing a balanced attack (Draw up some run plays) If you get all that fixed, THEN we can look at QB. But honestly, until you get all those areas addressed, you can put Tom Brady on this team and the result won't be any different - let alone Kolb. Pheagles Fan
Good, he takes full responsibility, don't you feel a whole lot better......now make a few phone calls and move on. The 1st pass of the game was so typical of McChoke, smack, dab right into the ground! He looked like a flustered rookie out there, happy, happy feet and poor decision making the whole game....oh, wait a minute, the rookie QB (Jets) won the game for his team....our 11 year veteran undermined his, from his very first decision, his very first pass into the ground. The team goes as their QB goes and McSmalls set the tone. I can just imagine what his teammates must have thought or said under their breath to eachother. Oh wait.....here we go again! How many more years of playoff failure, yes that's what it is when you don't win the SB, it's a failure.....how many more years? It ain't gonna happen with AR and McAirguitar at the helm. Mark1npt

not surprising lonewolf hates the black qb and black president. aj322
So what if Donovan played air-guitar and had a few bad plays. I'd be nervous too playing at Dallas Cowboys mega stadium. I don't care how much Andy Reid and the big swinging you-know-whats at the top "worked" for a victory - the fact remains that their choice of adding a sociopathic felon to the fray was the first of many actions that sucked away the team's winning spirit. dogsrule
This wasnt any ONE person's fault. It was a team effort. It was everyones fault. This team is very young at some very important positions and at this time they just arent good enough and ready to go all the way. Its as simple as that. They didnt have Jamaal Jackson at center, (although it astounds me that hiking a football is as difficult as Nick Cole makes it out to be), We dont have Dawkins which is a huge loss, our WRs couldnt get open. Its everyone. Changes need to be made. Im not even gonna suggest that we go and get a real running back because i gave up all hope on that a long time ago. Mccoy is gonna be a really good player someday but he's not a RB and neither is Westbrook. Mccoy is our next version of Westbrook. Maybe Weaver can be that big back but because they rarely run the ball to get our RB's into a rythmn we may never know. Id also love to know how in the world their receivers were always so wide open. Dallas is not THAT good. They arent as good as they have played against the Eagles. They just played a bad Eagles team. I could catch and get TDs all game too if no one was covering me. The defense was atrocious. And hell will freeze over when the Eagles ever do anything to significantly improve this run defense. They better use their draft picks this year to draft defensive players and a big back. philliekev04
Phink, I agree with you about the goofiness thing. When I saw that when he was coming the tunnel, I knew he was trying his hardest to mask his nerves. He was literally nervous and scared as sh..! barryDC

OMG, I am sick of the easy way out, the taking-responsibility-type statements. This is the most lame excuse and overrated statement used over the last decade. This statement has no cred at to me at all and clearly I never accepted this type of remark from anyone. It is just too insincere and an easy way out for pitty and/or forgiveness. Well, I hope he takes the responsbility to try deliver a SB victory next year. No excuse today, tomorrow, or ever, NO MORE! barryDC
O line play didn’t look all that great, but I’m no Qback. But what's happened to McNabb's mobility? What seemed to make Vick’s throw to Macklin work was not just Vick’s arm (sweet throw) but his legs—Cowboys D seemed to be reacting to threat of Qback run. In a game where run game wasn’t working and the youngins weren’t making good enough adjustments coming back to help, why didn’t McNabb extend play, using his legs a little more to move the pocket around laterally, not just back, maybe not like young McNabb, but version 3.0. Can he still do that? Just askin… There are lots of other issues with this team, too, but when McNabb doesn't execute, Eagles have no chance. We all know that. Phillyhomer
YOU MEDIA GUYS STINK! You dump on McNabb for blaming in on the youth (which isn't exactly what he asked or what was said last week), and now you dump on him for taking all the blame (his nose is growing?). What do you want from the guy? Seems to me that you just sit on the coach and take shots. The perfomance of the media in this town is far worse than the turd the eagles laid last night. Phew! So he takes responsibility, as still gets slammed. Gotta love it. It's like people aren't even trying anymore. Bashing Donovan is the easy thing to do, so why the hell not? I don't know what game everyone else was watching last night but if you think just changing the QB is gonna turn this debacle around you're fooling yourselves. As ColombianEagle said a few comments ago it's not right to say Donovan was lying about taking responsibility, but again it's the easy thing. It's the same thing as what the national media does to Philly all the time, only now it's acceptable for some reason. Me? I like actual facts. brho84
