McNabb: 'I take full responsibility'

POSTED: Sunday, January 10, 2010, 12:34 AM

After last week's loss against the Cowboys, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was roasted by some in this city for saying the Birds showed their youth.

Tonight, he took full responsibility for the 34-14 loss.

"We just didn't capitalize on the opportunities today, and I take full responsibility for all of it," McNabb said. "For all the opportunities we had to make plays, I should have made those plays for our team, and I just didn't today."

Later, McNabb was asked about the offensive line.

"Our O-Line did a great job for me," McNabb said. "Again, it goes back to I have to make plays. I put all of it on me. Those guys did a great job."

I'm watching on TV so I couldn't see McNabb's nose growing as he delivered that answer, but it might as well have.

Of course, the focus now shifts to whether McNabb will return next season.

"I've said it ever year. I want to be here, and I don't look to be anywhere else," he said.

But would he like to revisit his contract before coming back?

"Would I like to extend and be here? Yes. Absolutely," McNabb said. "But there are a lot more other things I think we can focus in on right now. If that was to come up, then so be it."

McNabb's contract was reworked, but not extended last offseason. 2010 is the final year of his current deal.

When he came out of the tunnel acting all goofy I knew that we were in trouble. I think he was trying to cover up for the fact that he was nervous.

when mcnabb doesn't take full responsibility for a loss, he gets destroyed in the media. and then when he DOES take full responsibility, he still gets criticized. the man can do no right.

The words sound good but the fact of the matter is that he is past his prime. He's slow, holds the ball to long, and can't make a slant throw to save his life. He helped bring winning football back to Philly but, it's time to cut the chord and go with Kolb. Oh Yeah, fire Marty Morningwig, he's an idiot.

Relax, Donovan. Andy will come out with the old "he needed to put his player's in a better position to succeed" schtick and take you off the hook. Cowboys suck.

I can't wait for the 5-11 era to begin with Kevin Kolb. Not really. McNabb is still as classy a man as you'll find in the NFL, and his play is what keeps us a winning team. Poor front office work breaks our back, and I think Lurie and Banner's Dawkins fiasco is what came back to bite us. We need heart, and McNabb has that intangible factor that we need to win. It simply didn't manifest itself tonight.

I really don't know what to say about you guys. You have a team that owns the Giants but you can't beat anyone else when it counts. Now we have to listen to all the Cowboi fans and their gay owner brag about how good and smart they are. The Boi's came up with the best D in the NFC and all the other teams fell back. As a Giant fan I can say the Eagles truly suck, but I hate the Cowboi's way more than you. You just can't win the big one can you. Besides I think Andy Reid really sucks. SOS. Thanks for your time. See ya next year. We both have problems to fix with our teams.

Where to begin? Andy is the biggest choke artist in the history of NFL coaching. He continuously and arrogantly thinks he can't go wrong, but the problems are obvious. D McNabb is a good mand and an adequate athelete, but a LOSER when it counts. YEAH I SAID IT 'A LOSER'. I, like many Eagles fans have had it, he CHOKES in the Big games and I'm tired of it. Now call Al Sharpton and tell him I'm racist.

Sheil your columns are normally objective and insightful. But your preconceived notion that McNabb was lying even after he took responsibility for the loss is beyond is not even right. You are entitled to your opinion about McNabb but don't make it seem as if he were going to throw the team under the bus because that is who he is. The man took responsibility and said it was his fault. Like Nova Wild Cats said if he says the right things shame on McNabb, and if he says the wrong things shame on him too?

That air gutair act is as old as his throwing act. Please leave.
