Jacobs: Giants will win 13 games

POSTED: Saturday, May 9, 2009, 3:36 PM

There is a legitimate buzz in this city building for the 2009 football season.

I'm going to expand more on that thought next week, but a key factor is the Eagles-Giants rivalry.

Both teams are considered among a handful of favorites in the NFC. Both made some big moves in the offseason. And both picked up offensive playmakers for their quarterbacks in the draft.

Even though it's only mid-May, the first prediction has now been made.

It comes courtesy of Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, who predicts that New York will win at least 13 games in 2009.

“We are going to have a new identity, a new scheme,” Jacobs said on his ESPN 1050 radio show, per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. “Hopefully a piece of that puzzle doesn’t come missing in the middle of the season and we’ve got to make another adjustment. It’s just a fresh year. And I think that we’re going to have a great season and going on to win at least 13 games.

“I’m putting us in that big dance early and whoever’s listening to it, I really don’t care if they don’t like it or not.”

Jacobs didn't stop there.

The Giants have been rumored on and off all offseason to be interested in acquiring wide receiver Braylon Edwards from the Browns. Jacobs said he doesn't think Edwards will be coming on board and added that he feels that's a good thing.

“I don’t want him,” Jacobs said. “There’s great players in the league that I don’t want. I don’t know, I just think the chemistry between the teammates that I have now is great. We don’t need to add a new veteran to the whole group. I’m good with where we are. I’m glad that we didn’t go forward and get him or (Anquan) Boldin. And those guys are great guys (but) I’m not interested in that idea.”

So what do you think MTC readers? Are the Giants the favorites in the division? Is it the Eagles? Will either team win 13 games?

Hey iggle fans, last time I looked, that trophy case of yours is empty and will stay that way as long as McChoke is your QB. The only reason the iggles made the playoffs was the choke that Tampa Bay pulled off against the Raiders. As usual, You lost in the NFC Championship game.AGAIN! You beat us in the playoffs last year.SO WHAT!! The Giants play to win Super Bowls, anything less is failure. The closest the Iggles will get to a trophy is 90 miles north up the turnpike. They can polish all THREE SUPER BOWL TROPHYS.

wolf, I for one don't hate Eli, but you just proved my point when you said "ELI proved what he can do with the right weapons" because it was his weapons that won it for him, weapons DM has never had. Eli didn't do it all by himself. It was Tyree's catch, not Eli's throw that kept that game going so stop telling me Eli walks on water because without those weapons last year how'd he do?. STINKO! He ducked like a little girl on that INT, what a leader. What the infatuation is you have with Eli is curious and I'll have to assume you are a Giant fan, not an Eagle fan. Eli over DM based on 1 fluke win? No way.

I don't know about yet about how many wins either the Giants or the Eagles will have. however, one stat where I would like to see the Redskins, giants and Eagles tie is beating the dallas cowgirls. i love it when all three go 2-0 against the girls. Especially this season with their new arena. lets tear the cowgirls to pieces!

Fact of the matter is, once Eli lost Plaxico last year, he could not do anything agains the birds... Without that big threat or big target he had no answer to the Eagles attack...

Also, all you Giants fans that mention Super Bowl Trophies, it's kind of funny because that's what you people would bring up since your Giants can't beat the Eagles RIGHT NOW...

wolf, are you really going to try and compare T.O. and Westy to Jacobs, Burress, Tyree, & Toomer? Really? Without that help last year Eli fell flat on his face while DM has had to go it virtually alone for 10 years. How about a little blame for others for the SB loss? AR and JJ were both outcoached. The D gave up the lead that DM gave them. Branch was allowed to run wild. Westy ran for a whopping 44 yards and dropped a pass that hit him in the numbers. DM threw for 357 and 3 TDs and put 31n the board, far better than Eli did. Tyree makes the greatest catch in SB history on a bad pass but it's DMs fault and Eli's brilliance? Are you kidding? You don't think that catch and Hobbs falling on the last pass was a fluke? Your anti-DM bias is obvious to everyone. Try posting one positive thing about DM, just one. After 5 championship games that can't be impossible. Look at it this way. DM is a borderline HOfer right now and with a SB win he's a lock yet you haven't posted one positive thing about him EVER. You pick and choose facts to support your arguments, leaving out facts that don't. You call that fair and objective? I call it biased. Your hatred of DM is obvious so just admit it. And please stop the smart a*s remarks. I thought you had progressed past the juvenile, kiddie stuff.

bottom line, Donovan is a much better qb than eli, people just love to hate on donovan... You mention TO w/ Donovan, what were they, 13-1 his first year before TO got hurt? Then made it to the super bowl w/o a number 1 receiver in the playoffs..Eli couldn't get out of the divisional round last year w/o his #1 rec...

I predict a 20 int season for Eli without Plaxico to bail him out on his awful throws time and again.
