There is a legitimate buzz in this city building for the 2009 football season.

I'm going to expand more on that thought next week, but a key factor is the Eagles-Giants rivalry.

Both teams are considered among a handful of favorites in the NFC. Both made some big moves in the offseason. And both picked up offensive playmakers for their quarterbacks in the draft.

Even though it's only mid-May, the first prediction has now been made.

It comes courtesy of Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, who predicts that New York will win at least 13 games in 2009.

“We are going to have a new identity, a new scheme,” Jacobs said on his ESPN 1050 radio show, per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. “Hopefully a piece of that puzzle doesn’t come missing in the middle of the season and we’ve got to make another adjustment. It’s just a fresh year. And I think that we’re going to have a great season and going on to win at least 13 games.

“I’m putting us in that big dance early and whoever’s listening to it, I really don’t care if they don’t like it or not.”

Jacobs didn't stop there.

The Giants have been rumored on and off all offseason to be interested in acquiring wide receiver Braylon Edwards from the Browns. Jacobs said he doesn't think Edwards will be coming on board and added that he feels that's a good thing.

“I don’t want him,” Jacobs said. “There’s great players in the league that I don’t want. I don’t know, I just think the chemistry between the teammates that I have now is great. We don’t need to add a new veteran to the whole group. I’m good with where we are. I’m glad that we didn’t go forward and get him or (Anquan) Boldin. And those guys are great guys (but) I’m not interested in that idea.”

So what do you think MTC readers? Are the Giants the favorites in the division? Is it the Eagles? Will either team win 13 games?

Sir Jacobs: Never attempt to brighten your own candle by trying to extinquish another. Edwards is a fine NFL player. I know that because he's made the NFL. Many are called, but few are chosen. As far as the NFC East goes, you had better chack out I 95 South to South Philly. Guess you blocked out last season's beating in January. We shall see. By the way, the real heroes are in Iraq and Afghanistan so tell your playmates in the NFL to stop acting like "studs" when they make even a decent play. My goodness, if you're so "bad," please pick up a weapon and stand on the wall. Back to football----do more sit-ups!! Eagle Fan

Brandon Jacobs talks alot for a guy who couldn't get one yard with his team's season on the line. Coughlin thought so much of Jacobs that the series before that he preferred the quarterback carry the ball in short yardage. If Jacobs feet ran as fast as his mouth, maybe the Giants would've had a chance of beating the Eagles in a playoff game in their house. It's better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

The Giants will win 13 games...sure...and the Mets won't totally blow it in September. God I love the fact that Philly sports teams own New York.

Still leaves two losses via beatdowns courtesy of da Iggles and one inexplicable loss that will leave Tom Coughlin purple.

Seems to me they lost a Pro-Bowl receiver and we gained yet another Super Bowl Cornerback. He should shut up and play the games. When that is done, we will see!

haha i wonder if that mouth would have gotten him that yard he needed on back to back possessions in the playoffs? haha, its funny because he could end up having a season ending injury during Week 1. what a joke these football players are, they all need muzzles.

Reality Speaks
listen up PhillyHockeyBuff, the past is the past...then again that's all you have. what happened the last time the giants played? hmmmm, care to answer? didn't think so...and one other thing, what genius calls himself phillyhockeybuff, than goes on raving about a NY team. I guess that's the way a NY fan rolls, don't know what they want...sad :(

giants can win 13, with 2 losses to the birds. maclin and jackson gettin a punt return td a piece, maybe some rec tds too. eli is good, but he will struggle against the eagles without burress, like he did twice last season. eagles offense will be tremendous. the real dark horse in the nfc east? the redskins and their ridiculously good defensive line
