Giants accuse Eagles of dirty play (again)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 21, 2010, 7:54 PM

After the Eagles' first win against the Giants, defensive lineman Chris Canty ripped Todd Herremans for a pair of dirty blocks.

Herremans had been called for two personal fouls during the Birds' 27-17 win.

Now, after the Eagles' stunning 38-31 win Sunday, another Giants lineman is accusing the Birds' offensive line of dirty play.

"It’s just that team, they like to play dirty. Same (stuff) they did in the first game and the refs don’t do (anything) about it," Giants defensive tackle Rocky Bernard told Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger. "Just taking cheap shots, after the whistle, tackling, holding, whatever. It’s ridiculous."

The Eagles were called for just five penalties for 30 yards Sunday. There was an illegal formation, holding, illegal touching, a false start and encroachment. But no personal fouls.

Bernard said he was complaining to the refs, but getting no help.

"I’m usually a pretty cool guy, but when they start doing stuff like that, taking cheap shots, that’s when I have a problem with it," Bernard told Garafolo. "You try to complain about it to the ref, and they don’t call it."

As I said in this morning's playoff scenarios post, there's a chance the Eagles and Giants could meet for a third time in the postseason.

ELI'S PLAYERS-ONLY MEETING

For the first time in his career, Eli Manning called a players-only meeting this week to address his teammates.

"I don’t want to make a big deal about it," Manning said, per Zack Berman of The Star Ledger. "I just felt that something needed to be said. I just wanted to make sure that everybody’s head is where they need to be."

The Giants take on the Packers in Green Bay Sunday afternoon. If they win, they clinch a playoff spot. If they lose, the Eagles can clinch the NFC East before even taking the field Sunday night at the Linc.

Earlier today, I posted on how the Eagles only had 10 players on the field during Sunday's onside kick.

And finally, in case you missed it, check out the strange scene below when Manning was supposed to talk to the media at his post-game press conference. Basically, no one was there. Well, except for one guy. Never seen anything like this - either on TV or in person. Perhaps there's a good explanation, but I have yet to hear it.

The last game they played against the Giants, I could see the two fouls against Herremans as dirty plays. However, everybody in the league holds after the whistle, and does stupid things they shouldn't. Does it get called? Sometimes, but most likely it doesn't. Taking cheap shots, after the whistle, tackling, holding, like he said. However every team does it... and it's not like any Eagles guys ripped off the Giants helmets. I could easily look at the game and show where Giants had "dirty" plays, with "holding", "tackling", and so on. I think the Giants just need to stop whining, because if the Eagles had ended up losing, most likely we wouldn't say the Giants are dirty... I just guess that's what happens when you have their mentality.

This Giant team never quits. Their the ones that were talking trash all game on defense so thats probably why the Eagles played a little "dirty". They put it on themselves and deserved it.

Actually, it appears they quit thinking with about 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter. But, specific to talking, they appear to never quit.

bahahahaha! That link is one of the funniest videos I've seen on here. That was freakin' hilarious!...anyways, I think the Eagles and giants will see each other in the playoffs. In my opinion, they're the two best teams in the NFC.

Wow, a 45 point loss. Were the Flyers (5-0 loss to FL last night) and Sixers worn out from watching the Eagles game on Sunday? I hope the Sixers get more immediate success with their lottery pick in 2011. I also hope the success for their 2010 lottery pick is deferred. Oh yea, what's up with the monkey holding two footballs? Is that how they roll in SoCal?

Thanks for the explanation RS. I suppose my interpretation lets you know how I roll. I am bummed out that I missed the last two game chats - down in Fort Lauderdale with the relatives until the 31st.

Boy, the Giants are sore losers. So, that is the excuse they give for allowing 4 touchdowns in 8 minutes.

Eli Manning holds a players-only meeting. I guess the Eagles are supposed to be shaking in their shoes now. The Giants stink. They'll lose to Green Bay Sunday and it will be all over but the crying. They'll have to wait until next season for their "revenge."

Rocky Bernard "Usually I'm a pretty cool guy." Except when you're beating up a woman.

Giants a bunch of whiny crybabies just like their fanbase.
